Is there any news (or rumours) about new Apple macbooks or ultraportables?
I'd like to see a lighter Macbook 13,3 inch or a ultraportable 12 inch.
-
Nopes, no new rumours yet.
I would say, the MacBook will get a minor update in October (no re-design), and the ultraportable MBP will be launched in early 2008 or at WWDC 2008. -
Regarding the update to macbook, will they only change the OS to leopard? I just purchased a macbook and I don't want to buy it now and in just 2-3 weeks seeing a brand new macbook that's way better -_-" If that's the case I will just wait till the new update rolls out.
-
The graphic card in the MB is a GMA 950 and they are not yet using SR. I think that if you buy a computer like this now you could probably expect it to be upgraded not to long into the distant future. The specs are due an update.
What i would like to see in terms of an ultraportable is a 13 inch MBP with a dedicated GPU. The 12 inch PowerBook used to fill this place before Apple discontinued it when they switched to Intel. -
I agree. But it could take another 3 months or who knows even longer.
Also 2,3 kilo for a 13,3 inch is not of this time -
Leopard is lated for an end of October release. Even if they do update the MacBook now, you will still have to wait for Leopard to be released before it becomes pre-installed.
-
So does Apple typically update the hardware prior to new OS launches?
-
Typically, no. However, the last major update of the MacBook (considering the May update was basically a price drop) was in 2006, and the MacBook is currently using outdated hardware (its lacking Santa Rosa), so that's why it would be reasonable to say there is a possibility of a MacBook update in October.
To Murdoc, I would say the MacBook, if it is updated, will incorporate Santa Rosa (and X3100 graphics), and possibly LED-backlit screens. However, Apple could also leave the MacBook as is and update it with Penryn in early 2008. -
Of course there is never a lack of rumors going around about Mac products, and with that in mind I provide you the following (eh em) "rumor":
Sometime between now and WWDC 2008, a 14.1 or possibly even a 15.4 version will be added to the MacBook line up; it will be Santa Rosa based, and include a x3100 GPU.
-
I actually disagree
. My prediction: MacBook gets updated with Santa Rosa and X3100 and possibly LED-backlit screens in October, and the release of an ultraportable or 13.3-inch MBP with dedicated graphics at WWDC 2008. My prediction
.
-
Fair enough!
I would like to see both yours and mine come true.
-
I agree with Sam. It's possible that we'll see an ultaportable earlier though.
I doubt we'll see a 14" or 15" Macbook. It would blur the lines between the Macbook and Macbook Pro too much. -
Now there is...take a look> http://www.macrumors.com/2007/09/21/slim-aluminum-macbooks-soon/
-
9to5Mac is reporting some rumors about a slim aluminum macbook:
http://9to5mac.com/ -
I just read about it, oohhh la la
-
And the scariest/best thing about it? 9to5 Mac has been scoring all the rumours lately. They got the aluminum iMacs, and they even got the leaked iPod Nano image and the name iPod Touch. This piece of news will certainly be interesting
.
-
apple should just used dedicated video cards. dumb.
-
Once again, there's several reasons for that. While I agree that dedicated graphics on the MacBook would be awesome, you do have to realize the MacBook already gets quite hot, and also, having dedicated graphics on the MacBook would create even more similarity to the MBP, and the MBP wouldn't be as "worth its price" then.
All in all, my prediction is, the rumoured ultraportable MBP will most likely have dedicated graphics, but if Apple decides to re-position the MacBook for the prosumer market, just as they did with the latest iMac update, then I could see the MacBook getting dedicated graphics then. -
what about this rumour:
http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/21/slim-macbook-rumors-resurface/
Looking good so far. ;-) -
I think that's the fourth time today I've seen someone post a link to bews if 9to5Mac's new rumour
.
-
ah they listened to me
-
One of my favorite things about that rumor is the part about the new notebooks being priced very aggressively.
-
im REALLY hoping to see a product(RED) macbook. and do u guys think there will still be a big price jump for a black instead of silver, if, in fact, they do come out with aluminum macs?
EDIT: i also think the "strange touchpad" may mean they have two buttons, but thats just me. -
Red MacBook? Its cool, but personally I don't see enough people buying a red MacBook to justify its production cost
.
And for the touchpad, I don't think its two-button that makes it strange, but rather there's some sort of implementaton of multi-touch in it. My prediction, but I'd say very likely, given Apple's demonstrated technology and patent filings. -
There's actually an interesting debate about the current MBP's trackpad button. Seems there are two buttons, one on each end and the center acts as a fulcrum. Whether or not the buttons connect to the same sensor is not know. And there's a lot of speculation involved with future potential.

So I just bought a macbook in August and I'm wondering can I sell it somewhere for close so the original price ($1099) so that I can ugprade to the new macbooks when they come out? Cuz to me, black aluminum sounds amazing I know this is just a rumor but it's something that I'm definitely looking forward to. Think about it, black aluminum...
-
Seriously, SamsungFTW, just keep your current MacBook
. Technology constantly improves, and if you keep exchanging every time a new MacBook is released, you're never going to have a notebook that you actually keep.
Anyways, if its in nearly brand new condition, I'd say you would be able to sell it around $800-900. If you do decide to sell it, start as quick as possible, as you and I aren't the only ones that are reading these rumours
.
So yeah, I do not recommend switching notebooks every time a new one is released. Just keep your current MacBook, use it for a year or two, and when it comes time to get a new one, in a year or two, then get it. That's my opinion. -
so i dont get it- what is this "multi-touch" you speak of?
-
Multi-touch being the same touch screen technology that the iPhone is currently using; where the touchscreen can recognize more than one point of touch on the screen at the same time. With this technoloy you are able to make gestures with your fingers, which in turn becomes an action.
So for example, because the iPhone is multi-touch, when you are viewing a photo, put two fingers on the screen and push "outwards" (so slowly moving the fingers apart), and you will enlarge the photo you are viewing. With older non-multi-touch touchscreens, it would only be able to recognize one finger, and not the second one simultaneously because it didn't have the technology to recognize multiple points of contact.
So if multi-touch was somehow implemented onto the MacBook, that would probably start with the trackpad (and not the screen). It would most likely introduce "gestures" with the trackpad that becomes other actions (for example, maybe moving two fingers in a circle will equal "Save File"). -
I agree with wath you said but I mean, I just got it. Plus, if the rumor about the upgrade to the enclosures is true then I definitely wat to get one because an aluminum macbook would be awesome especially in black. But I see waht you mean, I'll probably end up with this one anyway cuz my parents paid for it so I doubt that they would let me sell it to buy a new one, although my dad does agree that it sucks that a newer version came out so soon.
-
i just got a crazy idea: what if the touchpad is really a little LCD screen! wouldnt that rock?!?!
-
that would be kinda cool but imagine how inaccurate that could be...I think I'd rather have a touchpad cuz they're more accurate. Think about the drag your finger has on the iPhone screen, that would piss me off if that were my touchpad. But that could be cool, Apple's pretty clever so that wouldn't surprise me maybe they could even optimize it to own hardcore lol
-
I'm a person who would never think about getting a mac.. but after reading these rumors, learning about leopard....I WANT ONE so bad. Good thing next summer is time to buy a new laptop.
-
Haha, I know so many people who can't wait to switch to Mac (fed up with Windows and Vista
), and they're all waiting for Leopard to make the switch
.
-
Yeah punkerz I used to hate macs but last summer I took a programming class on a program called Mathematica and we used it on the previous version of iMacs and I fell in love with them. Macs are soo amazing I think once you use one you'll never want to use a PC again unless you absolutely have to.
-
How are the current touchpads not already multi-touch? If they weren't then it'd be impossible to have the two-finger scrolling and two-finger right click tap functionality.
-
Yes, that is true. In a way, the current Mac trackpads already have some elements of multi-touch as it supports two-finger scrolling.
-
Yeah, I agree they are somewhat multi-touch capable. However, I say that in order to be "branded" as "multi-touch touchpads" they should have more features like the pinching on the iPhone. I think that if Apple wants to add more functions that it wont be that difficult seeing how they have the right click and two-finger scrolling.
-
So the idea is to focus more on gestures to do other commands? Seems kinda interesting, but for using two fingers, it'd be nice if the touchpad were a bit deeper. If the gestures turn out to be too finicky it'd just be frustrating and I'd quickly stop bothering to even try using them.
-
I agree. And more gestures would be interesting...like maybe moving your fingers in a circular motion rotates you around your different Spaces...etc.
-
If anyone hears some new rumours or news, please keep us updated.
I am eager for a updated 13,3 inch macbook. -
Nopes, no new rumours yet. If you want to keep on top of Apple rumours, I suggest you read www.MacRumors.com. They always have all the latest up-to-date rumours and news.
-
I think a cool idea would be to be able to put two fingers on the trackpad and flick them to scroll like on the iPhone. It obviously wouldn't work with a single finger since you would have to scroll with the single finger. Of course, the even nicer thing would be just a fully multi-touch LCD screen, but that would likely be quite costly.
-
Two finger scrolling/flicking already works
!!!
-
i doubt you'll ever see an ultra portable mpb.
-
Care to clarify why you think so, roor?
Because personally I think its no longer a question of if it happens, but when. Apple is bound to release an ultraportable MBP or MacBook to satisfy the large market of users that want a light, small Mac notebook. Its like the iPhone...it was bound to arrive, just no one knew when. -
http://www.thinksecret.com/news/0710macbookrev.html
It doesn't seem that there will be any AL MB's i kind of doubted that rumour anyway. -
That will be a huge disappointment if true for many people, I'm looking to upgrade once Leopard arrives and the rumored 13.3" Aluminium MB/MBP with SR update being released soon for the holiday season would have been perfect for me - I don't really want to hold out until MWSF! I've looked at the latest 13.3" PC competition and the Macbooks really lag behind now in terms of HW inside and (compared to maybe a few PC notebooks) sleekness on the outside. Build quality aside the XPS M1330 does look like a very nice notebook weighing just over 4lbs with an LED backlit screen, T7500, discrete graphics and an Express Card slot costing (here in the UK) about the same as a Black Macbook with 2GB RAM and an XP/Vista license on top - if it wasn't for OS X and the Apple feel-good factor the Macbook would really struggle to sell itself at the moment.
-
While I'm not challenging anything, it is worth noting that ThinkSecret has had several false rumours lately that they had "confident sources" to...9to5 Mac is the one to look for.
Latest rumours on new macbooks? ultraportable?
