When I start up my MBP, for about 5 seconds, a light blue screen will appear on my screen. Then, my desktop appears. I heard that there is a BSOD problem when the desktop never loads, but my desktop appears after around 5 seconds. Is this a problem?

If you desktop loads, then it's not a problem. I suppose that some people might have a task somewhere that executes itself during the blue screen and crashes the OS or something, but if your desktop is loading then it's fine.
-
I see a blue screen for a few seconds also. Judging from other threads about this I assume it's normal. A lot of people seem to have it.
-
every single mac boots up with a blue screen after the first Apple loading screen.
-
You mean something like this, but with a blue tone, right?

If so, that's perfectly fine. That's the way OS X starts up. -
ive only heard BSOD happening on a windows box
?!?!?! -
Macs get the Black Screen of Death
.
-
As others have said, it's not a problem. The blue screen is completely normal behavior unless the OS does not load.
I believe the issue you may have heard about is with Leopard and Application Enhancer (Software that is installed alongside Shapeshifter, older versions of the Logitech Control Center and other third-party applications). In that case, the computer never makes it past the blue screen to finish booting the OS.

stealthsniper96 What Was I Thinkin'?
its fine. maybe its apples way of smack talk with windows.
-
Um, I don't think so. I don't think Apple would do that to it's Mac customers. At any rate, it's just part of booting up. The older way used to show the box saying "Welcome to Mac OS X" which delayed booting times. It's no longer there so the desktop appears much faster. To the OP, don't panic, it drives me crazy sometimes because when Leopard was first released the Blue Screen showed up during installation because of Application Enhancer and it made it look like Macs have the Windows BSOD. Don't look for any blue screens on Macs.
When there's a kernel panic the screen turns black with a gray overlay tell you to hold down the power button to shut down the computer. Other than that there are no blue screens of death on a Macintosh, we are not in Windows.
-
Yeah, its nothing really, its just the way OS X starts up...it could've been a red background, but obviously that would be a strain on the eyes
.
-
???, have you seen the PC icon in Leopard? haha
-
Just for fun then, here is the icon Mac users see in Leopard for networked Windows computers.
Mini How-To: Remove the Windows BSOD icon in Leopard, make OS X a little less smug
I made this text bold, so don't hate!
-
OMG! That icon is hilarious.
-
Haha, it is a laugh, but yeah, I'd rather it not be there, as its just another way people are saying Mac users are arrogant and conceited, and most of us aren't. Funny anyway though
.
-
they could of at least used a somewhat modern monitor, haha, that is a nice how to.
-
Well, I think it's funny and just makes my daily computing fun.
I get so tired of some snooty ignorant Windows users calling my computer "Macintrash" and "Crapintosh". Windows users think they are superior too.
-
Yeah, I find it...rather tiring how many misconceptions about Macs still exist, and how some of the Mac bashers love to talk about them even though they don't apply anymore. Its unfortunate, really.
-
Hmm, Sam what do you think? Maybe the Mac bashers secretly want one but don't want to admit the love Macs.
Sometimes I really do think that is the case.
-
I know what you mean. Whenever I have something crash on me at a friends house or something I'd be like "WHAT?! WHY DID IT DO THAT?!" and flip over a table or something. And then my buddies tell me it's because I'm using a Mac...... however I like that fact that the crashes happen only in Vista
-
Many do
. Some can't afford it, and bash it...its like the old scene where someone goes, "I'm sure those cookies tasted horrible anyway!" when they couldn't get any because it sold out.
Most of the Mac bashers have never touched a Mac before. I remember calling the iPod overrated, but truthfully I never had used one extensively before then. Then I tried my friend's iPod Mini when he came over, and a month later I was carrying an iPod Nano
