This report comes from DigiTimes.com that the Spring release of OS X Leopard will be pushed back so that Apple can make sure Boot Camp will support Vista
http://www.digitimes.com/systems/a20070322PD214.html
Probably a smart move if they want to capture more of the people who need Windows and reluctant to move totally over to OS X without being able to run certain Windows apps.

October?!
Pfft!
There goes my plan to buy a MBP this summer... -
Psh hahaha, looks like M$ isn't the only one pushing back release dates. Oh well, I like that they are integrating Vista compatibility, I actually did want to use Vista, and my iMac is the only one that has the graphics capability.
-
I'm glad I got my macbook instead of waiting
-
October?! That's just horrible. If this is confirmed, I'm gonna pull the trigger when Santa Rosa hits, whether or not Leopard is out.
-
I doubt this. I'm sure Apple has been working on drivers for a long time now to allow BC to work with Vista. If it were a delay, I don't see it being till October. June or July maybe, but not October.
Looks like a rumor to me. -
I concur.........
-
That is unbelievable BS. Haven't they heard that everyone who want to run Vista in OS X is using Parallels. Granted, they don't have the 3d support yet, but it will probably be here before Leopard ships now and then who will use Bootcamp?
-
I don't believe that they would need 6 months to built in support for that, at least I hope so.
Many people expect a product refresh. My guess would be that they release Leopard before that to give people another incentive to buy the current model. After that they can realize a second sales boost with the new models. This scenario is also likely to better support/push the stock price. -
I say June/July. I [highly] doubt it will be October.
-
I don't think its going to be October...I don't see any benefit for Apple to 'delay its operating system' after criticizing Microsoft for the same thing, and Boot Camp can be updated later on in the future in Software Updates...I predict (and many others predict) that Leopard's going to be released/finalized for release for WWDC 2007 (June).
-
I will say that DigiTimes isn't usually one to post rumors without some type of basis, but thinking more, it would seem kind of strange for Apple to put things off six months for the sake of Vista when it seems they could maybe offer an update to the OS later on if they really need that much more time to offer such support in BootCamp.
In a related story however, Ars Technica is saying June and not April for Leopard

The emporer will not be happy with Apples apparent lack of progress. I bet he sends Darth Vadar to put them back on schedule.
-
I have figured June for a while now. If you listen to developers, Leopard is nowhere near complete. A delay beyond June would not surprise me at all. Not to mention, it may not be as easy to trick Vista into believing there is a BIOS as it was to trick XP.
-
If there is a delay then I doubt the main reason is vista support. After switching a few months back, I can say the the major selling point that macs have is that they don't run vista.... they run OSX...the thing S.J keeps ranting on about being the best OS since sliced bread. Maybe they saw the damage releasing a new os before its ready can do to your credibility, and user base.
Thus have pushed back the release date so that all the new features work perfectly, unlike the vista release.

I both hope and don't think Leopard will be delayed until October. With Apple having said Spring it would just look bad for them to delay it especially when they are trying to take the high ground against Microsoft's delayed Vista. I don't think it would go well after all the Vista bashing to delay your own OS making it seem subservient to the whims of Windows. They'll probably launch 10.5 in May/June as planned, but with only Windows XP boot camp support. That in itself should be a sufficient new feature since Boot Camp is still in beta right now and the drivers are hardly optimized. Then there will probably be a 10.5.1 update in October adding Vista Boot Camp support. And if Leopard is still so behind in development as it seems, then if Apple does have to rush the development to meet their PR commitments then 10.5.1 would likely be needed to iron out any problems and perhaps activate some additional hidden features that weren't ready at launch.
-
At least when Apple releases software it's more or less perfect...unlike M$ who just delays launch dates for no reason.
-
I'm wondering how well our MB(P) can run vista
-
It looks like the rumors may be wrong anyway. This is from Jupiter Research:

And here is a report from engadget with a similar story.
I must say it sounded pretty stupid if true, why would apple care so much about vista? Just doesnt make much sense.
a
I wonder if this is a case of apple leaking bad news just to keep the rumour mills going and to keep people taking about them? -
I really don't see Leopard getting pushed back to October. It just doesn't make good business sense to hold back an OS to accommodate Vista when they'll surely be able to support XP completely by then, and XP is still the more popular Windows OS.
-
So now we know this is BS.
-
Sorry for digging up old posts but now we know its not BS.
Hahaha Mac Lovers will always be Mac lovers.
Bootcamp boosted Apple's Sales so much they couldnt just ignore it.
Mmmm its strange my bootcamp expires on Octobre 31st ...wait 4 days after Leopard is released ....strange.
BTW I have a MacBook Pro with Vista... hope to see some Graphic Cards update. -
Well, the official story is that Apple put Leopard on hiatus to focus more on marketing the iPhone - or something.
But anyway, there's no need to wait for Leopard for updates to your GPU in Vista - just go to www.laptopvideo2go.com and download the latest driver (it's 167.xx currently or something). Follow the instructions there. -
