Hey there, I was wondering if anyone can help me here. I periodically go into the "Apple" icon to check for updates, and have never had a problem installing them, although most recently, I have been trying to install the latest version of Leopard (10.5.5) onto my Macbook Pro (currently using 10.5.4). I have left it for 12 (TWELVE) hours and it just will not proceed past the "Restart" stage. It DOES show the "bar" in the middle of the screen, and it says "configuring", but nothing happens. I've tried 3 times in the past week. What do I do? ..... Thanks in advance.......

You will need to buy the leopard (10.5) disk to to an upgrade from 10.4. The updates via apple will not allow you to do this. They will only update you to the latest version of the point release. ie for 10.4 its 10.4.11.
So to go from 10.4.x to 10.5.x you should first install via the disk. Then run apple updates once your on 10.5

I have 10.5.4, however it will not install the 10.5.5. It shows as an available update in my "software updates", but will not allow installation. There MUST be a reason.

Is it just 10.5.5? Are there any other Software Updates available for other things like iTunes, Quicktime, Security, etc. that are/aren't updating?

Well of course there must be an explanation.

    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1055comboupdate.html

I would suggest you manually download the combo 10.5.5 update from the link above. The combo update is very large, but it is the full version that can update everything from 10.5.0 and up and could fix problems if your 10.5.4 update had something corrupt. The 10.5.5 update offered in Software Update is a delta update that is smaller but relies on a good previous 10.5.4 base.

I would also suggest going to /Applications/Utilities/ and running a permission repair in Disk Utility before updating.

Yes Itcommander is right download the full version.
I had a different issue with my wifes mb. It wasn't showing the 10.5.5 update at all, so I did the manual download, everything worked great.

Sorry for my earlier post, but you had writen 10.4 before you edited it out, thus my answer was based on that info.
