I would wait for Lion. The difference between Leopard and SnowL is not that great. I've been using the Lion beta for a few weeks and I like it a lot. No sense in buying an SnowL when it'll be outdated in just a few months...

I think an upgrade will work. But even if it does not all OSX upgrade DVDs are full installation DVDs and you can use them to do a clean install.

Does Apple still allow you to upgrade for free if you get your Mac 1 month before? I heard a rumor about that...

Does anyone know the confirmed release date for Lion? I all can find is "summer."

There is no confirmed release date yet.

The free upgrade if you bought within one month is something that Apple does a lot. But is always something they do to make people happy. It is not something they have to do. I think it will happen but no promises.

generally they have what they call the up-to-date program that will be announced along with the OS release. It will have an exact date listed so anyone who bought a computer that came with 10.6 on that date and after will be able to have a 10.7 disc shipped to them for $9.95... its general like 4 to 6 weeks.

It'll probably get announced at WWDC on June 6...so 6 more weeks.

Use migration assistant found in applications -> utilities I think.

Documents, photos, files etc. backup onto a hard-drive.
