well i had heard it would be delayed
there was a discussion earlier in the forums but i didnt know it was due to Iphone
well lets just hope the Iphone is worth all the hype and the sacrifice -
I don't care about the Iphone, personally.

Well they are probably polishing it up some due to Windows Vista.
Personally I hope its a bit different from OSX and not to much of the same.
IMHO, then again macs are overpriced, underpowered, and incompatible.
*And I hope I do not get neg rep for this because I have gotten neg rep abuse for posting my opinion on apple products. Anyways I own an Ipod Nano and think its great. So please be considerate and respect my opinion and view, rather than acting childish and leaving me neg rep. I do not leave neg rep if someone bashes Windows which I prefer. As a matter of fact I have only given neg rep to a spammer. -
but macs do look good one of the reasons for their survival and also the lack of hundreds of bugs and crashes as in windows as well as the user friendly factor is their strong points i guess

There are plenty of good looking PC's and of course it has less bugs and crashes because there are a lot less applications/mods/downloads for it.
Anyways not turn this into a PC vs Mac discussion what is Leopard bringing to the table? -
id rather buy a solid overpriced computer than a cheap unreliable one

leopard is fully 64-bit, virtual desktops (spaces), other stuff...

Link to Apple's statement, for those who haven't read it... it's not on their PR page yet.

Ah, well there you go, very interesting.

This is interesting. Who knows how much resemblence it bears to whatever's going on inside Apple, but it does make sense. Missing the deadline on Leopard would be bad; missing the deadline on the iPhone would be catastrophic.
usapatriot, your anti-Apple comments probably got you a negative rep because of the delivery more than the content. Not to be offensive (sincerely), but you came off a little fanboy-crusader, except backwards. That is... I think the pro-Apple ones get to be the fanboy-crusaders. -

Well, I guess this alleviates any remaining guilt I may have had not delaying my MBP purchase to wait for Leopard.
It was brought up at MacRumors that Apple is overhauling the OpenGL API for better performance including support for OpenGL 2.1 with unified shaders, up from the current OpenGL 1.4. This delay to October might allow Apple to incorporate Long Peak which is a major OpenGL revision which is due this summer. -
If Apple is serious about OpenGL performance, they need to ditch ATI. ATI's GL support has been weak compared to nVidia for ages...

Is the delay in Leopard likely to have any effect on the timing of the hardware re-fresh (ie: Santa Rosa)?
I don't see why but it relates to waiting (or not) to buy a macbook.
I don't mind updating the OS but I would wait if it meant losing out on a hardware update. -
They should have Santa Rosa in their laptops by the time Leopard is released.
-
This comfirms that I'm not getting a Mac until Nov-Dec, Holiday season.
I just viewed the Leopard sneak peak on Apple's website and it looks sweet. Much better than what Vista can offer. -
Well, my main point is that Linux has more than windows, and they're still much more secure. Maybe you need ot look beyond the surface a bit more.
And I myself don't think XP is a bad OS. It's fairly stable. One reason why OS X is more secure is because it's much more strict with drivers, something Windows needs to do, maybe. Then again, I've only run across 1 piece of hardware (or set) that doesn't work in OS X and thats Creative's sound cards (who I've always hated for their poor drivers under windows).
Anyway, this sucks. I would like an iPhone myself, I just won't go to Cingular for one. I'd love to get an all in one PDA, iPod, microPC, and phone all in one. I know a lot of people think it's way to expensive, but it's not a phone. It's beyond a smart phone. But I'll have to take a look at the LG copy of it. The interface demo is so incredibly similar, I'm wondering if they'll have a law suit on their hands. -
i liked the sneak peek of it on their website too its here if anyones intrested
thumbs up to apple for their OS's but thumbs down for their eco friendliness -
I hope it's before, because my mac has died and I'm stuck with an old pc because I want to wait until Santa Rosa Macbooks are released -
So is this the first sign of Apple's future. They did change the name to Apple, Inc or whatever. I think this may prove that Apple is moving more towards selling iPods and gadgets and away from computers. It's a shame because I am not convinced the iPhone will do well. I am very disappointed.

An interesting take on the delay. -
I doubt that. If the Iphone becomes a huge success, it will draw more attention to Macs. Also most people I know that don't know jack about computers want a Mac. I don't know if it's a fashion thing, word of mouth or both.
I think Apple is taking the "hook everyone on our gadgets" approach. If people have nothing but Apple gadgets, why would they buy a PC next instead of a Mac. -
-
i just found that there is already a thread on the delay, sorry guys
-
If the current OS does everything you need, there really isn't a reason to upgrade. Your school may have an educational discount/deal with Apple that will let you upgrade for free/cheap. For example, Virginia Tech gave us a *free* upgrade to Vista.
-
Too bad really that Leopard is delayed. I don't fully believe Apple's excuse for the delay though, I think its more about the "top secret" features in Leopard.
But I don't think Apple will delay Mac updates until October...if you ask me Apple will probably refresh the Macs at WWDC and offer some sort of voucher or coupon to upgrade to Leopard from Tiger. Without all the hassles similar to the Vista Express Upgrade program, of course.
-
since windows copied many things from the mac OSX maybe they are working on the looks to out due windows vista to tell them not to copy but improve?
-
Well from the developer builds it seems that Mac OS X Leopard will have a more "unified" theme than Aqua. In Leopard, all the windows will have the look found on iTunes 7 (unlike Tiger right now, where its Brushed Metal in Applications windows, and gradient in System Preferences, etc.).
(This is a reply to passive101 regarding the theme/look of Leopard)
Leopard will be delayed until October due to Iphone
