I am currenty running a computer deisgned for Windows 98 (Pentium 3 866Mhz) on Winows XP. And it seems to run fine if I don't multitask.

Would running Vista on 2.0Ghz Core Duo MacBook br around the same as me running XP on 866 Mhz desktop? Or would it be better/worse

Vista 32-bit should run even faster on your macbook than XP runs on your other computer. Its barely a generation older than vista whereas that old computer is quite a bit older than XP.

Why would you want a MacBook to run Vista?

This doesn't make any sense, really. An 800Mhz P3 can run XP very fine if it has enough memory, multitasking and all. I have run XP in Pentium 2 based systems - just give it plenty of memory and a reasonable HD and it will run fine. Plus, a final version of Vista has not been released yet. And then it will have various flavours, not all of them will sport AeroGlass or whatever it is called that fancy new GUI - and even then the GMA950 is supposed to run it. At least wait until Vista is out, if performance under Vista is so important, and then ask again exactly which version and resources of Vista you'd like to know.

I plan on running both Leopard and Vista when they come out. I want Vista for the Windows Apps that won't run on Leopard.

The MacBook should run Vista better than your desktop runs XP... when Vista is released. By then, Apple will probably have their drivers available for Vista via Boot Camp. And GMA950 does run Aero, but I've heard it slows down the system a bit.
