cheaper one. i.e. monitor not made by apple.
-
I'm not saying PCs couldnt do the same but it will feel outdated MUCH faster probably within 3-4 years. And it would push you to buy another PC so ending up costing the same as the 1 time purchase Mac for you in 8-10 years.
I guess what I'm saying is that Apple's software is so far ahead as to other companies, 10 years from now it'll still feel fast/new to you. -
Mac hardware does not get old that easily. People are still using their good ol' powerbooks!

I looked at a HP 23" and was told by another user that I needed a 100.00 dollar cable to be able to get HD. I figured I had about 400 to invest in that, so I decided the 24" led would be a better option.

lesson #1-never trust random people
you need 100$ cable to hook it up with monitors with ultra hi resolution, such as 30" cinema display.
you just needed 5$ cable from ebay... -
Ok, I should have asked. Is 500.00 more worth it for the 24" led (apple)?
-
well,24" is one of the best screens I have ever seen,it uses ISP pane(I currently use samsung t244 and can't imagine working on something w/o ISP)l and has LED backlit, and for me it is definitely worth the money.but if you are not picky,400 HP might work for you.but it uses TN panel, which some people call "crappy"...
-
TN vs ISP?

24" LED ACD is the best display out there for the $$ right now.
It has the best H-IPS display (type of panel) viewing angles and color accuracy are excellent.
Other brands that have similar specs with the LED backlighting technology is the NEC or Samsung LED 24" displays with an inferior lcd panel (S-PVA or S-IPS) still not as good as the H-IPS panels in the 24" LED ACDs yet they cost $2500-$3000.
$899 with student discount comes to $799 still the cheapest out there for this type of quality, actually better lcd display with led backlighting technology. -
It does look very nice when watching HD movies.
Thanks -
I'm just feeling buyers remorse for spending so much on the MBP & 24"
-
man,if you fill uncomfortable, you can sell them on ebay-you ll lose 100-200,but still... I don't know how else I can cheer you up!
-
Thanks, that helped.

In all seriousness, it's all up to what you really need in a computer. If you just surf the web and don't play games, then the MBP would be fine and you would have the ease of use with OS X, but a tricked out system with tons of goodies wouldn't pay off when you don't need it.

If anyone has buyers remorse and goes as far as posting what they could've gotten for a lot less then you should go for it. Return your Apple. -

I agree, if I had spent that much money and was still not happy I would return it. To me if the first couple days and the "newness" has worn off and it's still an issue then I would get something more like what I "should've gotten". But thats just me.

The LP2475w looks pretty good.
Would you go with an AMD Phenom(TM) II X4 920 quad-core processor [2.8GHz] or ntel(R) Core(TM) i7-920 processor (2.66GHz, 1MB L2 + 8MB shared L3 cache with QPI Technology) on HP's site?
1GB NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT [2 DVI, HDMI and VGA adapters]
or
1GB ATI Radeon HD 4850 [2 DVI, HDMI and VGA adapters]
ATI`s TeraScale graphics engine delivers an immersive, cinematic gaming experience
HP would be less than 2100.00
Thanks -

The HP monitors IMO have always been the industry standard. For as long as LCDs have been out, the HPs have always gotten top reviews. The Dell monitors, however, are the best for the money IMO.
If I noticed the thread earlier, I would told ya to send it back. 3K is an awful lot to spend. I would not be comfortable spending that much money without a serious 3 yr warranty at minimum. Of course I think the Dell Precision would have been a better buy for you could have gotten onsite support+an external monitor+the extra cable for the price of the MBP alone, but I'm not tied to OS X and thus my needs are different. -
I added up the cost.
MBP + 24" + TV + iwork = 3900.00+
The mac is very nice, but I could buy my son and me a nice system and we like to do online gaming from time to time. -

I dont know about HP desktops, but dell's slim optiplex line is sexy. Not sure about the GPUs though. -
Also what kind of games will you play? Both video cards are pretty speedy. -
Right now, mostly Metal of Honor, but am looking at more intensive GPU games
Looking at my boxed 17" mbp
