Looking for way to see if Turbo Boost ever kicks in.

    Hello all,

If such a thing exists, Can anyone point me towards a utility that would display turbo-boost speeds when it kicks in? A boost meter app, maybe a built in system utility...? I'm curious about when and what usage/situations flip the switch. I know Intel explains how it works (something like one core shuts down and all the juice is diverted to a single, now higher clocked core), but doesn't say exactly when or how to tell we are getting the extra speed.

It's not like an app's progress bar creeps along for a bit, then suddenly shoots to the finish when the boost activates, as if a nitrous button got pressed. From what I can tell, it's so "seamless", maybe it never happens... hmm, a new conspiracy theory.. :p

Hope this makes sense and thanks for any helpful suggestions

    Cheers!

p.s. I've tried to have cpu-z and/or Speccy running to see if a higher clock speed and one less core gets recorded, but nothing.

I bought the ASUS G73JW-XT1 on 1/4/2011 and there is a Icon/Image in the upper right corner that appears when the machines boots up. It is in the shape of an Intel processor and has the Intel logo on it. It has a vertical bar gauge that shows the processor speed in real time, it shows 1.73 and goes up to 2.66 etc. while using the machine. I think it's a Widget or App put there by ASUS with the other pre-installed software. I don't know if it's a stand alone that you can get from ASUS or elsewhere

Yes, I think there is a Windows 7 widget that monitors this.
