If the 9xxx series were also faulty, Nvidia will have to shell out more money to cover the resulting failures from the systems that have the cards. So the 9400M in the Macbooks go byebye then?

Shame. I was expecting the 200M series to make its way soon.

We do not know for fact that the money they accounted for the 8600s also included the 9600's as well. It was calulated for the batch that was bad and we don't know how many that was. So if out of 100, 50 were bad then where did the money go for the other 50? The only statement by NVidia to share holders was about the 8600's {which can be found on their corporate site).

IBM claimed the same just before Intel Macs came out. Anyway one way or another I do not mind ATI based notebook graphics in MBPs.

I doubt Apple is dropping NVIDIA completely, forever. Apple does "cycle" around, with one generation being with ATI and one generation being with NVIDIA. I think its a good thing - neither NVIDIA or ATI are amazingly ahead, and having both sides makes for a better deal for Apple. I do think Apple will go to ATI for next round, but I doubt NVIDIA is gone forever.
