I was bored was watching some unboxing videos on youtube (I know lame...) Mines should be here on Wed. But I noticed something. How come some of the boxes are slighter longer in length and have an extra white box that holds the MagSafe Extension Cable, and some do not have this box and the extension cable is where the magsafe cable is. Did Apple recently come out with a new revision or something?
-
Not that I know of, and my MB didn't have that white box you're talking about. It might be a new feature on their packaging.
-
Me too. I also don't have that small white box that holds the MagSafe extension cable.
-
Could you post a pic? I've set up a few new macbooks recently and haven't seen such a box.
-
There was a small white cardboard box for the extension cable in mine when I opened it a couple weeks ago.
-
I know there was re-design for the unibodys when they came out. Maybe some are just different. I don't remember what mine came with I think it just had a plastic film to hold it together. I'm to lazy to watch my unboxing to see \/ \/ \/

Can you post a link to one of the videos showing the new white box? Not that its relevant or anything, but I am just curious to see it!
-
That's interesting.
It must be something to do with protecting it from something in the box. Not sure what the purpose of it is though.
-
Yep was curious as to why they would make the boxes larger when they are trying to be "green" unless it was vital to the secure packaging of the macs
-
I bet its just simplifying the assembly line. I bet that these power cables used to come in individual white boxes and previously, some one used to unpack them and then put them into the mb/mbp box. Apple probably extrapolated that the 30 seconds required to remove the power cable and put into the mb/mbp packaging was costing them $xE3 and thus decided to just put the power cable in their white box straight into the mb/mbp box. Also, it may also be that these white boxes are unique to systems sold within UK since the UK power cable plug is pretty big.
-
The UK (and other international) power plug is too large to fit in the recessed compartment that the US plug fits. So they had to lengthen the box and make room for the larger plug.
-
Thanks for the confirmation.
-
You've got a very economical and manufacturing-oriented mind there, booji!
That's a good way to speed things up, and I don't think they'd do anything that costs any more money to override the benefits of spending the money.

I bought my mbp in Hong Kong and it never came with such box.
(Hong Kong uses UK cable plugs)
