Hey guys,
Can you install Ubuntu linux (or some other variant) onto a macbook? I know already that OS X is built from a unix shell derivitive but could I essentially have OS X, Vista (or 7) and Linux in some form?
Thanks.

Early 2008 and before - Everything should work fine with Ubuntu 8.10 out of the box except for iSight. There is a manual installation guide for that though I think. Won't work yet with version 9.+.
Late 2008 - A lot more problems. -
Here is a good place to start. Almost all the hardware works right off the bat.

That's petty awesome. I'm going into a computer science program that has alot of linux work in the course, however I still want the safety and comfort of having a mac. I've had vista and XP bootcamped onto my imac. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a gigantic hassle to throw inux on there as well.
Thanks alot for teh quick responses.
I might just have to buy me a macbook!

Sorry guys, one more quick one!
Can I browse and access files in Linux from OS X and vise versa? I remember when I bootcamped vista, I could access vista folders and files but I couldn't get at OS X.
thanks again. -
Yeah I'm pretty sure as long as it's HFS+ or FAT32, but if it's NTFS, then you need to donwload the NTFS-3G software for it to be able to read and write.

i feel more at ease on os x than linux. Btw, i use kubuntu 8.10 on my desktop.

Ubuntu has NTFS read/write now.

I had used the forums on Unbuntu to install MAC OSx, Unbuntu and Vista X64. It is quite possible. I did this on my 17" non unibody MBP. I haven't tried it yet on my Unibody 15" yet.
YOu can also download a VmWare image to use Unbuntu also. It might be a better alternative to a full install. -
