I hope people out there call apple and complain about the fact that the black is 150$ more simply cause its black. I find this outrageous, and i hope others do to, so they change this for the next release. I really want to buy one, but i hate the white and i can't justify paying 150$ more for black

oh yeah.. and you get 40Gb more of hard drive space 120 to 160. Now on most models that's a 90$ increase.

So really it's more like 110$ for the black! Although I'm more of a fan of the white look personally stands out more. All my dells are black, I need variety personally

the cost is 200 difference. the upgrade on the white to 160gb is 75$, so its 125$ for black. i stand corrected. still silly

Now find the price difference with Apple Store for Education US$ prices. Hint: it's US$133. :D

    Black MacBook is US$1399.
    2.16GHz White MacBook is US$1199 + US$67 for 160GB Hard Drive = US$1266.

Ugh, too many people with Apple logos as avatars, its confusing me :D.

Yeah, I don't really like the price difference either. But most people like the black products (the black 1st generation iPod Nano was a better seller) and Apple wants to gain more from that; you want black, you pay more. Same reason why black is only available in the 8 GB model of the iPod Nano now.

Not that I agree with Apple doing so, though. I wished it was evenly priced. I personally would still get the white MacBook over the black one.

I like the white macbook more, but I admit it looks pretty gay compared to the black version. Looks a lot more professional imo.

The only thing I think is unprofessional about the black MacBook is rounded edges :D.

But yeah, the white MacBook gives a more "toy" feel. Same reason the old iMac looks like a toy compared to the new sleek aluminum iMacs.

Try Dell. They generally charge less for the all black ones (their "Vostro" line) and I think people seem to get them shipped faster too.

Oh yeah, and in the case of the iPod nano, the black is much less of a ripoff. Sure they use black to entice you to go for the 8-gig (just like they use the colors to get others (mostly girls) to pick the 4-gig over the 2-gig), but in that case the extra storage is really worth the extra $50... or at least it was a while ago... I'm sure the pricing will all change with the new iPods next week.

Yeah the whole 'colour' sells business fascinates me. But hey buy a dell, cause in a couple of months it will be multi colored as the paint flakes off lol, now a new color scheme without upgrading, now thats priceless.

What fascinates me is how people can whine about something they desire but don't want to pay for. Want it? Pay for it! Think it's too expensive? Get something else! Why the whining, why the complaining?

Another thing is that selling "colors" is perfectly normal. Ever notice people buy cars in all kinds of different colors? Quite a few even pay for a custom paint job! In fact if you got away from your computer screen for a bit and looked around you, you'd see that all sorts of things sell on looks alone. Amazing, isn't it? Welcome to the real world :)

And the black MB is not just a different color, it's a completely different finish.

PS: Now I really don't get why women, and my dear wife in particular, want Diamonds. And that habit is way more expensive than a puny $150 difference, believe me ;) Diamonds are worse than the black MacBook. Way worse. Much more useless, too. Just not to my wife. Argh!

PS: Black for me, all the way. I like the looks of the black MB better than the now somewhat-outdated silver of my MBP. Unfortunately I need the screen real-estate and that LED-goodness...

My recommendation in this case would be to get over it, bite the bullet, and get the black. Spending $150 is much better than spending the next year and a half with black-envy, believe me. Worth it for sure!

What's $150? A few parking tickets? A nice dinner? Certainly not worth getting all worked up for. And also you do get a different finish, not to mention the by far sexxiest laptop on the market. Did I mention how sexy that black MB is? Would you take Scarlett Johannson to Burger King for a date? See. Get the black.

Maybe you can snatch up a refurbished one on the cheap...

so..you like the white macbook more but you admit that it's "gay" compared to the black version? seeing as they are the exact same machine (except for the 120GB vs 160GB) are you suggesting that you're gay considering your preference of the white one...and how "gay" it is?

white, black, who cares? same computer, same functionality same operating system. price is irrelevant - people who MUST have the black feature MUST pay for it. end of story

I had to get a black MB. I didn't want my wife laying her grubby :D hands on my Mac by accident. She has a white MB. I prefer the black color over the white MB and my silver MBP. A genius at the local Apple Store was a little surprised when I told him I thought the MBP design was getting old. I still think it looks good, but it's time for a change.

Why? Dunno..why do I have two TVs, two cars, I used to have two cats and two dogs, thank God I only have one wife. :D

This whole "want this 'style'? pay more!" trend isn't just Apple...like the 46-inch Sony BRAVIA XBR TV we just got...if we wanted a black finish around the screen (its normally a silver finish) we had to pay a few hundred more. Now that's outrageous.

I think is a rip-off to be quite honest. Yet I coughed up the extra money for the black.

Hey Steve, please offer a black anodized MBP. We all know that it's possible and I guarantee you that I'll buy one. :p

I second that! The day Apple releases a black anodized aluminum MBP I'll be first in line even if I have to pay a premium for the black. It's worth it to ME.

I like the white macbook more because it's different. I hate having the same thing everybody else has, in this case a black laptop. I like being different. And no I'm not gay... lol. But yes, the white is a little gay compared to the black. If they had a 13" aluminum mb I would've gotten that instead. But still, I'm happy with what I've got.

It's like you said, people who must have the black mb must pay for it. $150 is really nothing. You could consider it as a 10% increase for a color you want. To me it's a bit more sugarcoated that way...lol

If I had to buy a MB, I would go white I think.
If the black was glossy then hell yeah. But matte is ugly to me.

Lol! Yeah, that's another thing about the matte coating of the black MacBook...normal fingerprints show up easier on the white MacBook, but greasy fingerprints show up on the black MacBook badly :p.

The teachers at my school all have white macbooks (albeit they are pre-intel types). Quite simply their touch pads and palm rests look absolutely disgusting. What you see is like a layer of solid sweat on the palm rests, touch pad etc.

The school is just about to replace all the old Macbook laptops and is going to the expense of getting iSkins to help them look a little better, unfortunately you can't get protection for the palm rests, all you can do their is clean the contact spots regularly.

Pre-intel types aren't MacBooks, they were called iBooks :p. Anyways, yeah, if you don't keep clean habits the white MacBook will get ruined easily. I just use a cloth and water, clean my entire MacBook every now and then and it still looks great.

I still like the white better, easier to ceep clean and use BestSkinsEver full body protection.
If we could have in silver or glossy black, that would be different.
