Was thinking of getting a new MBP 15" and was wondering which one ran WoW decently (>30 FPS)? Any WoW friends out there?![]()

For World of Warcraft, I averaged some FPS, and here's what I got. All of them on Native 1280x800 Res:
All High Settings:
Outdoors: Average of 19-22 FPS and would jump to 28 on occasion.
Indoors: Average of 33-36 FPS and would jump to 45 on occasion.
All Lowest settings:
Indoors: Average of 67 FPS and would jump to 79 on occasion.
Outdoors: Average of 45-50 FPS and would jump to 58 on occasion.
Hope that helps! -

Awesome. Looks like I'll order a new 15 inch MBP for next semester. Thanks all!

No problem, dla kemper! Glad I could help you!

Yea definetly the 9600M GT considering some of the higher gfx cards have trouble handling WoW on max settings with full shadows and stuff.
-
yea even my Xfire 3870's with AA and AF on near high, dip into the 40's in Northrend(dang snow)....... But usually stays 90-120 every where maxed out ... shadows on medium
although if i stare at the sky i can hit 300 -
-
lol i was showing that even cards like mine can dip all the way down and the 9600 is still good
-
OP: You're still gonna get a great WoW experience with both cards.

MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
I was able to get thirty frames per second at the lowest (rarely, it can drop to 20, but the lowest was mostly around thirty frames per second) on my monitor's 1680x1050 resolution with everything else maxed when I played the trial, and they could easily go over sixty frames per second. That was on the 9600M GT on the MacBook Pro in my sig. I only tried the ten day account renewal trial, and I decided not to go back afterwards.

Not really. -
Here is what I will be purchasing for school/WoW while on campus or at work. I use my Alienware desktop when at home but need something that can continue the fun elsewhere.
Here are the specs I configured:
MacBook Pro, 15", Aluminium
Configuration
* 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
* 4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
* 500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
* SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
* MacBook Pro 15-inch Glossy Widescreen Display
* Backlit Keyboard (English) / User's Guide
* Accessory kit
Hopefully that get's me around you know >30 FPS. I imagine I'll have to adjust some of the settings to really tweak it but that will work.Thanks guys.
PS- Sweet Apple is doing free shipping, plus you can get a free 8 GB Ipod Touch when you buy a new Macbook! Woot! -
That's a great configuration, dla kemper! I'm sure you'll be just happy with your new MBP when it gets there.

I have the MBP 15'' (Summer 2007 edition) and it runs WoW very well on medium settings. I think I average about 30 FPS, but it does get rather hot in heavily populated areas and heated battles.
-
I wonder how it goes in mass outdoor PvP when there are like 50 guys fireballing each other! I checked my FPS and I get about what Colton got.
26 at the worst, in ironforge at a very busy time. -
Dla I think you should stick with the 2.8GHz processor the 3.06 is not much faster but uses considerable more power, if you want a more portable computer that is.
-
@Xhibit: I'll consider that, thanks!

As long as you dont set the shaders and shadow details to high it should be fine. Its the shaders and shadows that Blizzard just implemented that makes the FPS dip when you enter a highly detailed area. Also, the newer areas pretty much WoTLK was designed to use the shaders and such such so those areas will see more strain than, zones in BC, and regular WoW

If the T9800 2.93ghz 35W portable furnace in the 17" MBP is any indicator, I can't imagine the blow torch that a 3.06ghz in a 15" would produce.
That's assuming Apple used the P series 2.8 and not the T series 2.8.
Here's hoping.
