in all honesty, the difference in battery life between the two is not massive, but in nearly every case the 15" should get slightly better life. mainly due to the LED backlit screen.
I would think Apple will be updating the 17" model to an LED backlit screen soon. . . but what do I know.
the 17" MBP gets about the best battery life of any 17" notebook that I have seen though.
doing regular tasks I have seen 3.5-nearly 4 hrs.
it really just comes down to the screen brightness situation. -
@JonBook Pro
Apple's numbers are slightly exaggerated, and I don't think he asked for them as well. -
All manufacturer based battery estimates are exaggerated. I just provided that chart as a reference between the general battery differences.

i tried it. i left my computer on the battery and timed it. the programs i had open were vuze, opera, nod32 scanning, and oo defrag running it lasted 3.5 hours and i also have only 1.5ghz and speedstep backs it down to 1ghz each core

He's asking about a Macbook Pro though. Not about an HP.

^is that sarcasm? the topic of the thread in the Apple section of these forums is "MBP 15" vs 17" batter life?"
MBP 15" vs 17" battery life?
