So this was just released by Apple to fix a problem with the display...

What was the problem? i didn't notice anything wrong, and nothing seems different...well maybe it's a little brighter (it was already really bright!), but that could just be my imagination.

did update and got some rolling banding...noticed it with blue screen and the brightness set at second from top...look carefully. solved it with pram reset. Battery life seems longer.

so was it just an update to the display itself? or did they mess with the graphics card too?

At least in Windows the core and memory speed of the graphics card stayed the same. Not sure how to check for it in OSX.

Hrm, well Microsoft has one too, albeit unnecessarily complicated and you have to download an add-on in order for it to check for non-Windows updates....and sometimes it gets driver versions wrong...which is really annoying.

Still, I love how much control Apple has over its own hardware and how firmware updates show up instead of making you look all over for individual ones.

Now, if only it'd reveal other nonApple updates and beta and alpha releases too, then I wouldn't have to depend on this versiontracker widget that doesn't seem to always work.

Hold down CMD option P and R right as you start up.

it most likely has it if it hasn't been sitting on the shelf very long.

either way, software update will automatically inform you if you need it.

Well my was shipped right from China two days ago, and it didn't have the update installed. Was the first thing I did once I got home and connected to the net.

I was amazed at what a jump in battery life that update gave. It was amazing. I can push 5 hours now with low brightness. I am so glad I switched to a MBP. A beautiful machine, great power, and amazing battery life. Worth every penny.
