In short: I'm experiencing problems with my MBPs' DVD-drive (Macbook Pro 15,4" 2,5 Ghz Penryn - 4 Gb RAM - 8600 GT 512 Mb) from the first moment on. It reads original movie DVDs without problems, initial read-ins are fast, so nothing to worry. But normal data-dvds I burned with Nero on my various PCs earlier are a mess: it takes ages for the drive to recognize them and transfer can be as slow as 2-5 MB/sec. There aren't many crc-errors though; either it reads them very slow, just fine or even not at all. As far as I can tell it's not even the brand of the discs which could cause this, because they consist of a wide selection: BenQ +/-, Verbatim, Imation (cheap), Sony, Sky (cheap), and so on.
Any idea? Is it normal one could expect to have problems with PC-burned disc on a mac, or should I worry?

I have never had any problems. Have you installed Windows via Boot Camp? If these problems persist in Windows, then chances are there might be a problem with the firmware on your drive. Of course, you could always take your Mac to an Apple store and let them have a look.

I don't have Windows installed at all - I was just referring to windows PCs which I burned most of disks with.
I really need a little more input on this one. -
