Running Dual boot with XP Pro, so far so good!
Boot camp install super easy.
3DMark 2001 = 13,877
3D Mark 2003 = 4,985
Haven't noticed any noises, runs very fast, quite and heat not an issue.
Beautiful bright screen, plays HL2, Q4, and UT 2004 all smooth as silk medium to med high settings (I haven't paid much attention to exact detail levels).

Excellent! Have you been able to OC, or does the MacBook get too hot?
-
Hey what serial number is it? Would you mind posting the first five digits of your serial number, so we can see which "revision" you've got? Early revisions were buggy...
-
He probably got a later version, since he isn't having major issues with heat.
-
Doubtful he has no problem with heat. I bought one on saturday and it is a model number ending with a 13... and it has heat.
-
All MBPs have a heat problem, but the newer versions aren't as pronounced as the older versions. I've tested out the MBP in my local Apple Store, and I'll just say that it's no where near to cool, and gets pretty hot. I'm just saying that that the notebook won't burn you or anything.
-
i tried playing with one yesterday
the palmrest was a lil warm, but keyboard and touchpad were cool. -
The MBP gets pretty hot below the screen and on the speaker grilles in my experince with them. The touchpad/palm rest areas do get quite warm though (IMO).
-
below the screen is the vent, right?
the heat was the one that turned me off a few months back. then i heard about the rev D on their logic boards, and decided to look at it yesterday. it was way much better. a couple of months back it was searing hot. -
Well, yes for obvious reasons, the MBP will get hot near the screen due to its huge vent fan there. However, I was speaking of the area around the screen, the area above the speakers, the speaker grilles themselves, and the top the keyboard. Overall, I wouldn't call this notebook a space heater (almost close to one though), but compared to my E1705, this thing is hot!
-
By huge vent do you mean, the short but long vent that blows air right into the lcd?
I imagine I have one of the newest revisions, and it is hotter than jessica simpson. But, the thing is still beautifull and runs fast as heck. They sure do underclock the GPU though 310/300 when most x1600's come at 470/470.
-
Yup, that's the (only) one on the MBP. I think if Apple compromised a little bit and put vents in on the sides, the heating issue wouldn't be so bad.
It's hard to OC the X1600 in the MBP because of the heating issues it has - you can buy a notebook cooler though to lower internal temps and try OCing though. -
Again, agree with amdvsintel - the area where the plug is near the sound grill gets hotter than any other part of the keyboard side. On the bottom - 2 areas are noticeably hotter - where the HD is and where the GPU/CPU is.
-
After having my new MBP at work and running about 13 hours the past 2 days , I am saddened to say that heat is indeed an issue (serial # "12").
So much so in fact that it becomes downright uncomfortable to use.
Add to that discovering the X1600 is 33% underclocked with limited overclocking potential (heat) to say I'm disappointed would be an understatement.
As today is my only day off for the next week.....unfortunately back she goes. -
Where do you take it back too? My store says there is a 10% return policy, so I would have to pay 200 bucks if I took it back :|
-
He probably got to return it for free if he was having heat issues.
-
I think everyone (almost everyone) has heat issues. I can't believe they would let you take it back just for that. Maybe though
They told me, even if I got a dead pixel I couldn't take it back without paying the $200 buck refund. I don't plan on taking it back but I am just suprised how many people can just take it back without getting hitup with the return policy.
-
Not just the "regular" heat issues, but MAJOR issues. Some of the earlier models got extremely hot, to the point where touching the notebook would burn you.
I am curious on the dead-pixel policy though, because when I called Apple about their Dead-Pixel policy, the rep. told me "they would take care of any screen issues I had if I bought a notebook", while several others had no idea what the policy was. -
You are absolutely correct....there is a 10% restocking fee for refunds.
I decided to exchange mine and hope the next one is quite so hot.
There is no charge for an exchange. -
I went to CompUSA today and check out MBP. The touchpad is kind of unresponsive. The heat is not that bad. When MBP ideling, the palm areas feel a little warm, not hot.

do u know where i can go test the benchmarks of my pc such as 2d and pc marks
