Is anyone else amused by the rumor sites and speculations for when the MBP refresh would come?
So far we've had rumors "confirming" the refresh to be on:
MWSF 1/15
1/22
1/29
2/5
2/12
3/17
I imagine the gap between 2/12 and 3/17 be willed next week and each week after that![]()
Apparently every weekend, some rumor site will bring forth evidence saying the refresh will be the following Tuesday.![]()
-
Isn't that always what happens?
"iPhone 2 will show up...SOON! We know it!!"
-
^ o no =/ no new MBP any time soon? T^T
-
Whats going to be new on it?
-
I guarantee the MBP will be refreshed by the end of December 2008.
-
New penryn processors instead of Santa Rosa has been pretty much confirmed.
-
Speculations at this point are penryn + multi-touch touchpad + 17" LED....listed in order of probability
Knowing Apple though, I'm sure they'll include at least one surprise in there...err..I hope?
If only the rumor sites had your kind of accuracy
-
With all of these rumors NBR should start it's own mac rumors thread.
-
Well, there's just too many rumours out there...we mostly follow the flow. I mean, didn't you just hear? We're getting Yellow Submarine-themed MacBook Pros, because the Beatles are going to finally enter iTunes!!
-
We all live in our yellow submarine...
*ahem* yes well, anyways...
carry on.. -
If the surprise is an 8800m GTX ( highly unlikely, I know, it would probably cause some kind of nuclear meltdown in a case that thin), I'll be all over that.
-
Truth:
CPU and Video Card updated
No 17'' LED, No Multitouch touchpad, No remodel -
Truth?
Anyway, I don't know about graphics card, but I can understand the other things. I think multitouch trackpad will be included though, I don't see why not. -
I agree with what Sam said: besides upgrading VRAM there is nothing else to upgrade the gfx to. So where´s the truth?
-
Well, you can fit a 8800M into a 15", but if Apple did that, I would really use it for a frying pan
-
You can´t...not in the case of the MBP as we know it. Period.
Edit: The occasion virtually cries for me mentioning terms like "nuclear meltdown" then or "hotter as hell" etc... Sorry, couldn´t resist. -
stealthsniper96 What Was I Thinkin'?
if they put a multi touch pad on it, i will SERIOUSLY consider selling my MB and saving up to get one.
-
multi-touch is the biggest gimmick ever...
I mean, it's cool, but the added power of a MBP should be a bigger incentive. -
Frying pan? I think you mean bon fire.
-
I agree. It's no more functional than just pressing command plus or minus, or command left or right...
-
I'll have to agree to an extent. While I wouldn't mind having the multi-touch gestures, I would not consider it to be the premium feature of the Mac. Its a nice addition, but not that cool, like it was on the iPhone.
-
The iPhone was different. An interactive screen is much more appealing and "useful" than just a trackpad. If the MBs screen itself was interactive... that's a feature worth investing in.
-
If and when they do update, I can't see them doing anything more than adding Penryn CPUs, adding LED backlighting to the 17" model, adding the multitouch trackpad and maybe doubling the VRAM on both models.
-
Yep, and the multi-touch screen itself is more useful on a device where space is an extreme premium - not so much a device that already has a full-size keyboard.
-
Amen. Nothing to add. I learned my lesson from the last MBP update rumour-session and the MWSF, too. When we´re really lucky they´re putting in bigger hdds and that´s it.
-
The updated CPU is a must, second might be the HDD update (though I doubt it, maybe they'll go to 7200RPM) and maybe the 17" LED, cutting down some dough, decreasing the price for Apple Care and so on....dreams.
-
I really want a remodel. Guess I will have to wait...
-
Probably so. It looks great though, maybe a black model? That would be awesome.
-
You do know that penryn is a cpu and santa rosa is a chipset platform that supports cpus right?
-
no i didn't... haha
-
thekaz, people tend to call them Santa Rosa because they came with the refresh and that previous chipsets didn't support them.
-
That's okay, its commonly confused
.
Penryn is the processor, Santa Rosa is the processing platform. So they're not the same thing. I guess the best way to explain it is that the Penryn processor is running on the Santa Rosa platform
.
-
What ?
Previous chipsets didnt support them ? You mean chipsets previous to the santa rosa ( or technically a GM965 or PM965 chipset ) did not support the penryn right ? -
I never said that. I said that people tend to call the CPUs that came with Santa Rosa by the chipset's name because it's more convenient.
-
ok my bad i guess i just misunderstood......
No Worries
but then i am an intel guy not a Mac guy so cpus are cpus and chipsets are chipsets to me
NOW back to the thread
-
The Apple store website is down for updating. So hopefully we will know something very soon. Engadget is reporting that a 16gb iPhone maybe on its way also.
-
It doesn't mean that they will update the line. It happened before I saw nothing new.
-
The last time we got a pink iPod Nano.
-
16GB iPhone to launch in UK today
http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2008/02/05/16gb_iphone_to_launch_in_uk_today/ -
They updated the Shop with the 16GB iPhone and the 32GB iPod Touch.
-
awww, no Mac Mini update with X3100 graphics??? I would have gotten one today... the wait continues.
-
They're selling the Mini still with an old Intel GMA 950?
-
I can kind of see why they haven't yet put in the X3100, in that it can use up to 384 MB of memory which is shared with the main system memory. Maybe when they decide to update it they'll do two things: X3100, up to 4 GB memory support, and low-end Penryn's.
Does the Mac Mini now have the Santa Rosa chipset? I didn't see it mentioned on Apple's website. -
I doubt it's based on the Santa Rosa platform because it still uses the GMA 950.
-
I don't really know actually...the Mac Mini was updated in August with the iMac, so the iMac did...but maybe not the Mac Mini.
MBP Refresh coming....
