So i recently purchased a MBP.
Never owned a mac and I love this this machine.
Basically going to be my put it in my OGIO padded backpack and go to class and type.
So my question is....
Can my MBP last for five years or more without changing the logic board?
Hard drive i know can't or maybe the screen.
Is there any techniques, drills or seasonal routines to check up on the MBP's living life?
My specs are:

Do you have the 8600 GT? If so, those are faulty chips and have a high failure rate, especially with graphics intensive tasks. So I wouldn't say there is much you can do besides not dropping it or spilling anything on it.

The laptop in question has an ATI gpu. Either way nobody has the answer to your question. Longevity is a crapshoot, to many varying factors. Just becareful with the laptop and keep it clean especially the keyboard since the intake vents are under the keys.

Thank you.
So would the compressed air be a good one to use to clean it? -
In a lot of ways, electronics fail early, rather than later.
I think that CPU is 65nm, so, it's a little hotter than the 45nm Penryn.
I had a Core2Duo 2.16 with the X1600. It def gets a little toasty. The 4MB cache is very nice, but adds to the heat a little bit.
I always prop my laptops up on a pickle jar lid or something to let more air underneath. Don't use the laptop in bed sitting it on a pile of blankets. Stuff like that.
There is no way to know. It may work for a long time, it might just not turn on one day.
You got less than $1000 in the game, so, even at 2 years, you're looking at about $1 per day. Skip coke/soda/pop with lunch and put the dollar in a glass jar.
If it fails, buy another one. -
Yeah, computers tend to follow a tub-shape graph in terms of failure.

I thought these Macs ran hot, which will shorten it's life. But basically, just because it's a Mac doesn't mean it's going to last longer than any other computer. The average life span seems to be 4 years.

I had a Core2Duo 2.16 65nm Merom.
If was definitely hotter than than my Core2Duo 2.4 45nm Penryn. -
Please tell me where you got this number. Posting random facts and numbers without a source is pretty useless. If you do have a reliable source to backup this claim, I will take back my words.

I don't think that you'll have a problem. It's the 8600GTs you should worry about. As for the HDD, it should last (I still have a working IBM from 1998
, same goes for the screen. If anything, the case will dent up. The older non Unibody MBPs had a tendency to seperate or bend at certain areas and joints.

I wish someone would answer this before it gets buried in the replies and so that I would know this also !

You can use a can of air, but the key thing here is to always keep the keyboard clean period and keep your hands clean. Do not use those silcone keyboard covers since it covers the keyboard air intake.

It's well known the average lifespan of a laptop is 3-5 years. I just gave the middle number. At Best Buy, we also keep a record of when customers bring in dead laptops to try and be serviced, and it's also right in that range, just out of a three year warranty too, which if another reason I despise extended warranties. http://www.dailyfreepress.com/laptops-average-lifespan-less-than-four-years-study-finds-1.2107006

That is the same source as the squaretrade data, that is pretty useless.
-
Whatever you say.

There will be outliers people who their computers really fast, and people who treat their laptop like a child and have it last 5 + years but i think on average most laptops last 3 years, which is also why most companies will only offer warranties up to three years.
MBP Reliability Possibility?
