    seems to be the case.

does anyone know which machines this affects in particular? is it just the 13" umb/pro or does it include 15" and 17" models?

It only affects the 13" and 15" unibody mbp and not the 17".

I had this issue with the 15" unibody mbp so I returned it for a 17" and no issues whatsoever. Never even had to install a 1.7 firmware for the 17".

    Read the article.

The article doesn't talk about whether or not your system reports 3gb spec. It talks about hard drive stuttering after the 1.7 firmware update which was to fix the 1.5gb problem earlier.

As it seems Apple haven't said anything about the issue. I think its because they are unable to determine what the problem is or which notebooks are affected.

    Mine is perfectly fine.

I was using Leopard 10.5.7, with the 1.7 EFI Firmware with my Samsung SSD. No issues, just took longer to boot when starting up (Grey Apple Logo).

Now I'm using Snow Leopard, start up is blazing fast. No issues here either.
