Hey guys, been lurking in the apple forum for a while, to learn as much as possible before i go ahead and buy my MBP. Can't wait. However, i need advice on whether i should go for a glossy screen or matte.
Which is better? What are the various uses? etc etc...as the king of Siam would say![]()

i prefer the matte type of screens over the glossy. i think the colours seem more...well, "right"...might just be me but i think the colours on glossy screens seem overly vibrant, which is great if you want to watch a movie or something but since i'm using my mac for my design work at uni i prefer the matte.
also it's a treat to use outside when there's quite a lot of sunlight as it have a nice anti-glare coating. i would think that the glossy screen would reflect way to much light when you're using it outside. but both are good screens depending on what u'r gonna be using ur mac for... -
There is no real advantage per se. It is more personal opinion. It is true that the glossy give a more color saturation, while the matte don't reflect anything. Really, what you should do is look at them in person and see which looks better to you, since you will have to look t it everyday.

I have a glossy MBP screen and I love it! THere is some glare but it's very little and quite bearable.

Generally glossy is easier on the eyes. If you do a lot of coding or reading, get a glossy screen.
The colors aren't as proper as the matte, but really... unless your a pro, it won't make much of a difference.
The glare... is minimal. I only notice it when the sun is directly behind me (or you know, above me). Indoor light isn't a problem. -
I have the glossy screen as well, and it's awesome. I do photography and photojournalism stuff, and my pictures have never looked so good.
The way I see it, glossy screens are a natural progression - an evolution even, it's something that was INVENTED people. Regular old LCD screens have been around forever, the glossy finish required research, r&d (sony comes to mind right away) and a lot of investment on the manufacturing end. If there were no benefits to the picture quality.. well, why do it? I'd like to think the scientists and stuff out there for these companies know a little more about the screen qualities than we do, right?
I think it's the direction things are going, and there's a reason for it all as well. That's just my .02 tho. -
