So, my macbook pro is about a month old.

I'm using this at school and I don't know much about my network, other than I bought a ethernet cord and the internet magically works.

Well, just now, my computer just reset itself to factory settings. I lost my picutres, music, documents, papers....all my display settings, and scroll pad stuff.

I don't know if this is a problem with my actual harddrive (it was a bit loud while steaming a video on the internet last night) or if a network can do this to a computer.

Basically, I have no ide what just happend. Please let me know everything you can think of.....I'll answers any questions.

I did change the short name. I didn't know that would affect anything.

I went into finder, users and then typed in th old name to change it back.
It is teling me to select another name because that one is taken.
    What do I do?

OK, I finally found this Apple Support Document that is actually most relevant: Return to default desktop, apparent "loss" of home directory. Ignore my previous instructions about deleting the extra directory, I guess that's not necessary.

I fixed it! My baby is back!

Thank you SO much. I was so worried.
I even sent a very angry letter to my school's tech services! Oops....

LOL! Sweet, I'm happy you figured it out :D. The first time I did that, I freaked out a little too.

    Peace,
