Hello,
I use my MBP constantly for work, but usually running on AC power. Recently I discovered that my notebook shuts down suddenly when running on battery power. Last night it did this at 80% charge, today after resetting my SMC it lasted until about 43% charge.
In my system profiler it says:
Health Information:
Cycle count: 104
Condition: Check battery
How do I check my battery?
I've had this comp for just over a year and my warranty is up. I regrettably did not purchase Apple Care during that year window.
Any thoughts as to what could be causing this issue? Any solutions?

I had a very similar problem recently with my MBP suddenly shutting off when I unplugged the power cord. I took it to the Apple Store and had a guru check it out, and they replaced the battery free of charge. I even was out of warranty just like you are, but they replaced the battery anyway.
I'm actually happy with this level of service I've gotten with the Apple Store. Quality of service ranks high in my book for Apple so far. That speaks wonders on when I decide to get a new notebook. -
Wow! I am definitely giving them a call.
