1680x1050 and 1920x1200 are too high for a 15.4 screen imo. If you want that high of a res, id suggest a second display. 1440x900 is not too high and not too low, just right imo. As for discounts, no come back there, but Im a college student so idc :p

Different people have different needs. I need more screen estate for my work and 1680x1050 in a 15.4 is just right. I am using a 1440x900 14" screen right now and it's ok for me.

At least they should have an option for the screen like the 17" MBP does.

Apart from the price, the screen resolution is another reason why I am not buying a MBP.

If you ask for my opinion, I like 1440x900 on a 15.4-inch screen for normal tasks, but would prefer 1680x1050 for Photoshop work. But if I had to choose one or the other, I'd go 1440x900, as 1680x1050 on a 15.4-inch screen makes text too small, if you ask me.

And 1920x1200 is way too high on a 15.4-inch screen for me.

I agree, Sam. For some reason, I have trouble with that resolution on a 15.4" screen.

It definitely depends on what you do on the laptop as to what resolution is going to work best for you. Yes the text will be smaller on a 1680x1050 or 1920x1200 but if you have good eyesight that may not be of matter to you when planning to do a lot of Photoshop work or especially Excel type work where you have large spreadsheets to view.

the one thing I wish the mbp had was a higher-res display, something around 1680x1050. before I got my mbp I had a compal hel80 with a 1680x1050 display and the res was awesome, too bad the screen colors sucked :(

    So no competitors yet?

I mean seriously now, guys. A REAL ONE. Not freaking Dell m1330. That's not even close.

    Anyone?

Haven't heard much about it lately. Although I find the weight of it hard to believe. Its rumoured at around 4 pounds (without battery), which is way lighter than even the MBP...

IIRC, the whole point of resolution independence in Leopard is to allow a higher resolution without shrinking text and icons.

Does it work well? I have yet to try it, or see it in action.
