One other issue I am having with my new MBP is that the wireless seems very weak. If I am in the same room as the router, no problem. If I move to the next room, it is very bad, even though a Dell laptop with a 'g' card works just fine.
Oddly, my father just bought a new 13" MBP from Futureshop, and his wireless was actually dropping a lot, and he went back to futureshop and they immediatly replaced it with a new laptop, and he's had no problems since..
I was thinking of trying an N router, but if I still have Dell laptops with G cards, will that basically force the router to only work in 'G' mode anyway?

No, The router will still work in N. The dell will only be able to use G though.

From what I've read, in order for it to work the way you say, I'd need to buy the airport extreme ($200), yes? It seems the Airport express router can only work single band...

Don't buy a Apple router get a linksys/cisco.

Apple routers cost more.. but they are really nice. I love my Airport Extreme dual band thingymajic one. It'll spoil you to not using the cheapies anymore though.

I agree. I own a dlink wireless N, Linksys wireless N and an airport extreme wireless N and both the dlink and Linksys always gives me problems where for some reason the internet starts to slow down after a few days to a week and I'd have to restart the router manually. As for the airport extreme, I dont ever have to restart it or the internet slows down at all. I have no idea why this is but I do d/l ALOT.

You need a dual band router for it to work in both N and G modes. A single band router will switch between the 2 modes depending on what's connected.
I'd test your MB on other routers to see if it's a problem with your laptop or your router.
