So... I was in class today, and i felt the tip of my power adapter (the end that plugs into the MBP). Yeow! It was smoking hot.

    Literally.

So, I guess with the nuber of things I need to call up Apple about in regards ot my MBP, I'll have to get my adapter replaced. At least this will get me to finally call them.

I have the normal apple support number, but is there another number that is better to call?

That's the number I would call. They will likely replace your power adapter without any trouble. The other issues you'll have to go through with them one by one. Be firm and don't hang up until you're satisfied.

AppleCare's normal line is the best to start with. You need to give them a shot at it. If after several tries things still don't work or they don't fully take care of the issue, call Customer Relations. They can be reached through the corporate office.

Okay, I got off the phone Tuesday night (around 8:30 eastern). It took an hour, but they shipped one to me. They said it would arrive next TUESDAY!?!?

I hope to god they mean that it could take that long, but probably will be here by Friday.

On another note, they won't troubleshoot my MBP at all since I'm out of my 90 day warranty period. So stupid... it has physical hardware problems. But once I get my power supply back, I'm calling back to make them take care of that. No reason I should have to deal with an uneven lit lcd, loose hinge, static shocks, improperly closed frame, etc...
I want to buy apple care, I just want to wait till I have money over summer!

There have been others who have had this issue. More than likely, it was probably a bad set of adapters or a manufacturing defect. It's been a fairly rare occurance, but I have seen others that have had teh actual magsafe connecter melting.

Hard to believe. The problems seems to have occured when some wires shorted out. After looking at the cable, it seems that they did a poor job of insulation. You have the normal part of the cable that has insulation around it, then a bunch of bare wire running over that insulated set of wires. This outer set of wires is completely uninsulated except for the outer jacket. I'm not sure how many power adapter cables are like this, but it doesn't seem proper at all.

You know, I have also noticed that my power adapter is SMOKING HOT when I pick it up. It's actually painfully hot and I cannot hold it in my hands. It seems worse when I am actually using my machine while it's plugged in, but it seems much hotter than when the machine was new. I guess I should probably call apple before it's a melted little mess on the floor....

    Thanks for the reminder.

Okay, I just got the new adapter today. Wish it would have gotten here faster. So far the mag safe connceter is running very cool, where as the old one was always hot.

So now I can call apple and make them replace my MBP :-D
