Well those G.Skills that everyone is talking about finally took a price hike, like the people in newegg reviews have said you 'better buy now before the memory gets popular and they raise prices" well it's too late now. It went up to 104 dollars for 1 GB ram now, so it'd be over 200 for them now.

I got mine for 82 each back before the price increase. They might have sale again? Who knows, but the reason why the ram is so popular is because its fully compatible with MB and MBP's Only a few other out there are reported as fully compatible, most others don't run at full speed.

There is probably a big demand right now for DDR2 notebook memories. People who bought notebooks with 512MB are upgrading them to 1GB or more. A large percentage of Macbook owners also does that. Too bad, still haven't got mine. :(

RAM will continue to rise. There have been rumors that the prices will increase fairly significantly across the board. I would buy RAM now, I doubt it will get any cheaper anytime soon. But I could be wrong.

Probably mostly seasonal thing going on right now, such as all the students that just got new notebooks for schools are out looking for more memory, and companies getting ready for the holidays.

Just a simple case of economics in action. The higher the demand, the higher the price will go, it'll drop back down eventually, but being that it's so close to the holidays right now, it actually might not go down again until after the holidays.

So cashmonee might be right, it might very well continue to go up. who knows?

All 1GB sticks at newegg have gone up - now the cheaper ones costs about US$100. Better known brands are at least U$120. :(

Makes me glad I upgraded my RAM a month ago instead of waiting.

Yeah, its probably something good to remember for the future when you get a new notebook sometimes down the road (couple years?), to get that ram upgraded before september if you are planning on doing an upgrade.

Well, yesterday I ordered a 1GB stick for about US$165, shipping included. Considering prices in the US have gone up I didn't feel so bad about it like before. It arrived today, and I must say it was easier than I thought to swap the stick, with all those people talking about difficulties taking the L bracket out and inserting RAM - it's as easy as it gets, great job of Apple on this.
As for the speed - WOW, it is so much faster. Boot up time was cut in half, as the time for launching Rosetta apps. I am running the 1GB stick I bought together with the original Apple stick for 1.256GB total. I am not using dual channel therefore. I wonder if someone with 1GB (2x 512MB) could help with some benchmarks to answer that old question of the influence of dual channel? I'd like someone with Quake3 installed, or willing to install it. Does 2GB gets much better than this?

The hard part of changing the ram was getting the screws out. I had to go buy a set of precision screwdrivers because it uses tiny itsy bitsy phillips size #00 heads.
My eyeglass screwdriver was too big. I had to use the 512 for a day until I got the screwdriver. Talk about a major performance increase!
