Hello,
I recently ordered my second unibody Macbook! I gave my 3-4 month old 13" uMacbook to my mom for getting into an advanced BS of Nursing program. I decided that I would like the 15" Macbook Pro for some casual gaming (World of Warcraft) during my downtime at school and work. The 13" MB ran WoW pretty well on full settings but only at around ~12-40 FPS and lagged in player populated areas (which is to be expected). So I customized a 15" MBP that should be able to handle WoW way better than that and tackle any homework and media needs. Read below at my shipping questions though. I'll let everyone know how it performs when I get it.
I ordered the following on Jun 26, 2009 at 11:07 PM PDT:
- 15" Macbook Pro (3.06GHz Processor, 500GB HD 7200RPM, 512MB Video card, 4GB RAM, etc.)
- Logitech Nano Mouse
- Incase Neoprene Sleeve 15.4" Black
- iPod Touch (2nd Gen) 8GB
- 2 to 3 day shipping
I received the mouse, neoprene sleeve, and the iPod touch within 48 hours after ordering. However, I noticed my Macbook Pro sat in 'Complete and Ready for Shipment' mode for another 24 hours (3 days total). It did ship out today from Shanghai, China though. Is that normal? I also noticed that my 2-3 day shipping doesn't apply on the MBP because it shipped out today, July 1st and won't be received until July 7th. Is this normal as well? Guess I'm just a little scared that my laptop is coming from China. I guess as long as it comes in 100% perfect condition and the box isn't all damaged to hell then I'm fine with it. Please understand that I'm NOT discriminating against Chinese---I just want to make sure my package will be fine and this is legit.
Thanks guys! Look forward to some responses.![]()

Hmm that wasn't really my question troll. Who cares if it came from China (half of the products we use do). My point is, do they normally ship from China? And what about my 2-3 day shipping I paid for? That length to receive my new MBP is >3 days shipping time. Perhaps read the entire post before casting judgment? And notice at the bottom I said I wasn't judging the Chinese, I was just asking a simple question to make sure I wasn't getting scammed or anything like that.

1) so Zaz is a troll?yeah,right!
2) you ordered from apple.com? -
Who was casting judgment? You seemed to be concerned your notebook wasn't shipping as fast you wanted. My point being you should focus on the positive, that your getting your notebook. Even if it's a few days late, getting worked up over it serves no purpose.
You did not see to like the fact your notebook comes from China. Perhaps you weren't aware of this, most notebooks are made in China, as was your other MacBook, which you appeared to like. It's the way the world works these days. -
My reference to a troll is someone who skims the post and doesn't really read. And no offense- but usually high post numbers is just spam so perhaps such quick judgment was a little harsh.
I'm highly aware that they probably are made in China, but didn't quite realize they ship from China. What about my $18 dollar expedited shipping charge? Why charge the consumer for expedited shipping and then make them wait the normal 5-7 days? I find that to be my biggest complaint. I was also asking because I've never really heard of a company directly shipping from across seas to your doorstep (I've ordered Alienware, Dell, Sony, and Apple online). The Apple came from BestBuy and was here within 2 days. /shrug I just was a little confused with the shipping time and location, do forgive me for being so worried. And, yes, I did order from Apple.com. -
Bah, perhaps posting at nearly 0700 AM just doesn't work for me. Alright I'm getting back on WoW until I'm ready for bed. The joys of working nights! Sorry for being a jerk, I'll just contact Apple and ask for my $18 back since shipping from China is perfectly normal (as I just learned from you all). Thanks guys.

All this crap aside:
yes, Apple does ship directly from China... at least they did with my coworker's computer. It still arrived pretty quickly (2 days) via UPS. I'm just wondering now, how much that costs apple for each shipment. -
Lol I think you're a bit paranoid.
If you look on the back of all the macbooks it is laser etched into the unibody:
"Designed by Apple California, Assembled in CHINA"
This is just pure assumption, but I would assume that Apple ships from China to the consumer if Apple doesn't have any in the USA in stock and it would be faster to just ship direct to the customer. -
The shipping is very quick even though it is coming from China. I enjoyed watching the updates as it passed through Alaska and other stops on its way to me. My notebook is very well traveled.
I can understand your concern, I was shocked for a half second when I got my shipping notice. After thinking about it, I figured it made sense. The package came through without a scratch as well. -
Or instead of shipping, you can go to the store and purchase a macbook on the spot. No need to wait, unless they are out of stock.
-
You can customize a MBP at the store?
-
no.................
-
But then again, large companies get a volume discount, but regardless it'd be expensive as hell. -
Mine came directly from China and arrived in 3 days. I still had the tracking number and double checked it.
-
I think starting with the Unibody MB/MBP most of the orders from the apple store online came directly from china.

I called this afternoon and asked if that 'was normal' and the person in billing stated that was perfectly normal. She stated most of the custom ordered computers off the site are manufactured in China and then shipped in bulk to the US. She then proceeded to say the laptop will arrive by the 7th, but I quickly pointed out that I paid extra for the 2-3 day shipping. She was a little shocked and apologized. She doesn't quite know why mine was placed on standard 1-7 day shipping instead. She refunded my $18 right away. Excellent service from Apple as always. Sorry again for stirring up something earlier, think I was just tired.
I'll let you all know how it runs with WoW. I know some of my friends are desperately waiting to see how well it runs/looks on this beast. Thanks again for all your help. -
WoW on macbook pro runs fine. I remember a friend of mine playing WoW very smoothly on his old macbook pro. It will probably run even better since the graphics card is now better. =D

Just don't turn the shadow details up on high or your computer will choke!

Apple emailed me the other day and let me know the 'problem' I called about had been fixed. I was completely clueless because the only problem I called about was when I stated that my customized 15" MBP that I ordered wouldn't be in here 2-3 days (and I paid extra). Earlier I stated that my shipping had been refunded which was very generous of Apple. Friday morning I get a nice little knock on my door and to my surprise the laptop was overnighted. I have no idea how it happened since the Apple rep on the phone stated that since the MBP was already in progress (for shipping) that she couldn't change the status. Regardless the problem was fixed and they refunded my shipping fees! Apple rocks! That is how you do customer service! A+++ Apple!
On another note I installed WoW and ran it on high settings (with shadows turned down) and am averaging around ~35-95 FPS in level 5-25 zones. I've not had the time to see how it does in populated areas (such as Stormwind, etc.). Very happy with my purchase! 5 pounds, performs perfectly, gets numerous compliments and can easily play my favorite game!
