I recently went on a plane trip back home and I am having major issues with wifi connection in my family's house.

They have AT&T router/modem (combo?) and no one else in the house has any issues connecting with it.

What happens is I can connect and browse for a couple minutes or so, but sporadically, the internet will just stop working (not the wifi, it still shows my connection exists). I just won't be able to browse or make use of the internet at all!

I wonder if I might have banged it up or something on the plane ride? Since other laptops in the household are not having wifi issues, I am lead to believe it is just me.

nope, carried it on in my backpack.

for some reason, connection is holding...but I'm not counting on that.
Could it have something to do with mac OS software updates? I haven't installed any

The AT&T Gateway is good for some things, but they have really buggy software/firmware. How many others are connected to the Gateway? And is it possible for you to try connecting to another WiFi network? Maybe go to the library or a local Starbucks and test it out? If it happens there as well its an issue with your computer, if not, then its an issue with the Gateway.

I have a similar problem with my macbook. My wifi will just cut out after a few minutes. No other computers will be affected. When I turn my computer back on my wifi will return for a bit and then... no more internet. However, if I move my computer next to the wifi router, I will regain signal strength again. Other times, I will be working on my computer and my wifi will just begin to work again.

I saw this on my MBP when I first got it. If the SSID was hidden for some reason the MBP had problem updating. Once I had it broadcasting all was well.

Another thing to help on trouble shooting. Open up the terminal and try a couple of ping cmd's
    ping yahoo.com (test DNS servers)
    ping 98.137.149.56 (test gateway)
