I was talking with a local retailer today who said that the MBP will only run with 666mhz RAM, and not with 533. My understanding is that the chipset does support 533 without downclocking the CPU FSB. Can anybody verrify that?

I know in the PC world that if you put a slower memory in and (its supported) that the FSB would automatically adjust it's speed to compensate for the slower speed, thus less likely having an error.
However, why would you wanna put something slower in? -
Actually, most CoreDuo laptops don't downclock the CPU. They just run on a ram divider.
I'm wondering if the MacBook activates a divider?
Why would I? Because I already have the 533 RAM from an other machine. -
They don't downclock the CPU, they downclock the RAM. The RAM can only run at the slowest speed available. Meaning if you have 667 and 533 it will all run at 533 because it needs to be the same. Unless something has changed that I am unaware of. It really is not a big deal anyway. You cannot tell the difference unless you run benchmarks all day.

Unless you're a speed freak like I am, where I constantly watch the speed I get, I want to get every bit that I can get out of something I paid good money for.
(no i don't overclock, I don't believe in doing them)

I understand where you are coming from, but if someone put two identical notebooks, side by side, and one had 533 RAM and the other 667, could you tell the difference without checking? Be honest! LOL! But I hear ya, try to squeeze every little bit out. I would never by 533 to add to my notebook, but I also know I probably could not tell the difference.

Not sure what you mean by without checking, so I'm assuming by that you mean system information, but yeah I probably could.
I'd just load up Adobe Creative Suite CS2's Photoshop and see what opens first.
PS is a large program to open, so its gonna be the one that does a lot of action involving ram.

OK, all debates asside and all questions about why, does the MacBook support 533mhz RAM? I am assuming it should, but am looking for some verification.
Thanks.
MBP with 533 RAM??
