I bought the mbp13 two days ago on release date. While playing music, when I plug in a earphone and pause the music, I hear a hiss noise continuously for about 25 seconds, then it disappears. I think it's turning off the ear phone jack. I'm concerned that it always makes a background hiss noise when I'm playing music. I searched, but couldn't find any complaints about earphone noise.

I'm using a cheap earphone that was bundled with creative mp3 player, and if I can hear noise with these, it's going to be worst when I plug in a better quality earphone.

This is the first time I'm using a mac and osx. I own dell latitude d410/d420, thinkpad x61t, and none of those had earphone noise problems. Could it be needing a driver update, and would it be fixed later on? I don't know how driver updates work in OS X.

Other than this problem, I really like OS X, and mbp13 hardware. The OS works great, very thought out, and the battery time is outstanding. I had a hard time deciding between dual core i5 and dual core i7. Despite the price difference, I think the i7 cpu is really that better (about 20% faster base clock vs i5, plus extra 1 MB cache). But then I thought since technology moves on so fast, and I'm not sure if I'll see the difference in a unfamiliar OS, it's not worth dropping another $300 on the base model. I have 8GB ram and an intel SSD that I will put in later on if I decide to keep this mbp13. But I might return it and wait one more year for the total redesign model. If I return this, I'll be using thinkpad x61t and x120e (in production).

sounds like Macs.. their headphone jacks are always screwy.. this has been a common issue among several models. Happens on 2 of my Macbook Pros.
