    Hi guys,

I glance this sub-forum ever so lightly from time to time and you'd think I got my Apple knowledge to a somewhat 'together' degree.

But.. my cousins MBR decided to call quits after I did the following:

    1. turned the laptop off, shutdown that is
    2. opened it, used my can of air to clear out the dust
    3. changed the HDD to a new SSD we bought
    4. closed the baby up
    5. powerbutton did NOT turn the laptop on, but rather makes the SIL (Sleep Indicator Light) blink once.

Now, I tried the hold the powerbutton down 10 sec, and every other logical step I could find on the Apple forums, but nothing worked so far.

Important info tho: He once by mistake, poured cola on his laptop, so there's cola everywhere, his right side of the keyboard stopped working and he has used a wireless bluetooth once since then. I therefore suspect some keyboard reset commands might not be recognized when I use the on-board keyboard.

I am currently out of ideas. Tried plugging the battery off completely, tried booting w/o any drives too, nothing NOTHING makes it boot, all it does it start the fan, spit it 2 circles and stop instantly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am going over to my folks home to see if USB keyboard might do the trick.... otherwise I am all out of it.. and to think I convinced him yesterday to buy a SSD so we could make his Mac faster.. and now it won't boot lol

Well replacing the motherboard shouldn't be too expensive because it's an older system.

    Yep.

I am going to do it myself, the rep at the Apple store wanted 1000$ for the repair, although they advised against it.

    Off to eBay I am!

If it was running fine with the HDD and only started acting up when the SSD was installed, it's very highly unlikely that it's the motherboard.

Have you tried putting the old drive back in? What model and year?
