Hi everyone,
What are the differences between the 2004 student and teacher edition of office for Mac and the standard one?
-
-
nothing except the price
-
Also, while you're waiting to get MS Office, check out neo-office. It does a nice job for a free program.
-
As hehe stated, there is no difference except for the lower price. And a shazzoz stated, NeoOffice is a good free alternative to Microsoft Office for Mac.
Also, I'd recommend you not buy Microsoft Office for Mac 2004. Office for Mac 2008 (ignore the "2008") is going to be released later this year, so I'd suggest you wait, and until it arrives stick with NeoOffice. -
can you save in word formats with neo office?
-
Yes, NeoOffice saves in all formats. I have MS Office 2004 and decided to remove it in favor of NeoOffice. You get so much more for free. You are really not paying MS for the office suite, you are actually paying for the license. NeoOffice just chooses not to charge for the license. I like NeoOffice because it offers a ton of features not found in MS Office. Several companies choose NeoOffice and OpenOffice instead of MS Office to save money.
I transfer files and create Word docs with NeoOffice all day with other friends that use MS Office and no compatibility issues.
NeoOffice even uses the new XML file format for Word. -
Agree with above. I have MS Office 2004 for Mac, but haven't even bothered to load it on my MBP - prefer NeoOffice. Mostly what I do is use it to open documents that are sent from work, and I do the occasional spreadsheet, and so far it's been just fine. Office 2004 is a tad slow on the Intel Macs.

Office 2008 for Mac is a piece of crap with no VBA macro support. It's better just use Office 2007 on Windows via Parallels for full compatibility.
-
How can you NOT recommend something that hasn't even been released yet? Let alone why encourage Mac users to use Windows software as if it's the only solution, and they have to pay for it.
-
Well, there is nothing wrong paying for a software. While I like open source software in general, there are times when you need commercial software.
Most of the files that you care to open with MS Office are templated using VBA. This is relevant for most of us in work environment. If you are a student, please go head and use open source office like neooffice.
