If this was any other laptop, i would buy the 1 year warranty and not look back.
Why would i get this warranty? It has no acidental protection, which in my opinion is the only reason to buy a warranty.
But with macbooks being built by one company and the inability to find replacement parts, i am contemplating purchasing the three year warranty.
Would you suggest not buying a warranty?
* I will be starting college this year, and i will be taking my laptop to and from classes.
-
get the warranty, repairs off warranty are quite expensive, $ 700+ for a motherboard, and I have had $1000 for a screen that just failed and not accidental breakage ( I said no and replaced the panel myself with alot of effort )
-
I have applecare and it's more than paid for itself, but I do think I could have done better not getting the warranty.
Try buying the macbook with an americanexpress credit card or any other credit card that extends your warranty by a year. Free for you, and it covers you for 2 years (1 year original warranty + 1 year credit card warranty). That's good enough for me.
If you really want to one up yourself, get the applecare and buy with an american express and you'll be good for 4 years! -
Its worth it yeah.
-
Does anyone know how the credit card warranty works? Like how do you make a claim? I should check to see if my parents credit card has this.
-
PBI : Is it worth if it you add the imac/macbook to your home content's insurance?
-
Yes as if you have fire, flood, theft that will never be covered under Applecare. I do applecare and under either my homeowners policy OR my business police depending on what the machine is used for
-
yes, buy applecare on ebay, significantly cheaper!!
-
You're not kidding. Just checked. about 60%+ off retail. Hadn't thought of this before. But I wonder how legit and safe it is? Will be looking into this...
-
yeah, it's legit and safe (assuming normal ebay risks)...did it for my last macbook, had no problems when taking it in for warranty repairs!
-
do you still remember or have any info of the seller?
apparently some applecare register just fine, but when it comes to actually using the warranty itself is when the problem starts. This is just what I read in forums, never experience this myself. -
I looked into it a bit and this particular blog post sums up what to expect:
Can cheap AppleCare on eBay be trusted? | Wise Bread
They are sometimes also available on Amazon.
Basically, the closer the seller is to having the feedback of 100%, the better and significantly less chance of the Applecare code not registering. -
Ebay has a page warning people about Apple Care sold on ebay.
eBay Guides - FAKE APPLECARE APPLE CARE - A warning to buyers -
Well that's that then. Thanks for posting.
-
no, i bought it 3.5 years ago...best advice is just to look at feedback of the seller. It is much cheaper, buy it, activate, call apple to confirm immediately...if it's a scam, open a case with paypal/your credit card company.

More than worth it. I bought it with my MBP in 2008, had to have the screen replaced due to light spots forming on the edges.
It was a ~$700 repair. Fully covered by Applecare.
I have 3rd party RAM and HD in my MBP, so when I took it in I had to put the stock stuff back in, they never noticed. -
Hello i noticed this seller has like 6,000 positive reviews on his product.
eBay Feedback Profile for deals4mac
Do you think i could safely buy the applecare from him? or would you suggest spending the extra $130 and buying the applecare directly from apple? Thanks! -
Consider the extra $130 a "peace of mind" premium. If you understand my meaning.
-
Lol, of course i understand you meaning... (the reason i bought a macbook pro over an ASUS with similar stats).
I might wait a few months before i buy this anyways... i do like the laptop much better than my $2,700 ASUS g73jh... -
A little off topic, but I bought Applecare for an Ipad years ago. They failed on my continuously. I may have gone through 5. The reason apparently is that I used them in my car to listen to audiobooks, and that put to much stress on the Ipad. Applecare paid for all of them. Once it ran out, I switched to a nonapple product (I bought a Garmin with mp3 capability). Bottom line, to me extended care of computers is worth it, because if something does go wrong, it can get expensive in a hurry. I think of it like fire insurance. The odds are you will not need it, but if you do, you really need it.
-
do you mean an iPod? there was no iPad years ago...
-
LOL, i was just about to ask this myself...
Mac 3 year warranty a good buy?
