These days, I'd go with a laptop since it provides mobility. Plus, you can attach a monitor, keyboard, and mouse to it to get the desktop experience. Laptops these days are very capable machines, giving near-desktop-like performance.

Get a Macbook. It's the same parts except you get mobility added in.
-
it really depends on what you gonna use it for and if money is an issue. you'll get better spec for lower price with imac, but then, of course, you are missing the portability of a macbook. it all depends on what's important for you.

Currently owing a macbook, and longing for an iMac24" sitting on its side
If mobility is important, then macbook definitively
cheers ... -
Get the macbook, portability is a huge covenience.
-
Get 'em both; variety is the spice of life

Would be nice, but not everyone has that kind of money so it's either or situation. So, when are you getting the new aluminum model? It seems to be missing from your collection.
-
Its there - thats my wife's new 15" MBP. I'm waiting to see if Apple does a refresh on the 17" as well, then I may pick one up.
-
Oh it's a bit hard to see the difference without seeing the keys. I am tempted by Amazon's 24 month interest free offer on notebooks I really like the new aluminum Macbook. Gotta stay strong.
-
Its your choice. I love my white macbook and i am also longing for a 24" iMac. But i don't think i can part with my windows based gaming pc yet.
-
i just want it for my personal purpose. i just wanted to know which would be better when it comes to performance.
-
Neither. Get something else.

hey niraj,
if you could describe more details about what will you work and how much portable do you need, we can give you better advise. -
As chaz likes to say-
"If you don't have anything useful to post, don't post"
Seriously, whats the point of your post? -
i am an architect by profession.....so i would like to buy a pc that is going to help me work from home with all the latest 3d designs and animation work.

Screen realestate would seem to be highly important to you on that regard, in which an iMac would provide more screen-space than a laptop would. But, you could always get an external monitor and hook up the laptop to it.
I would choose getting a laptop + external monitor, but it will be a bit more costly than getting an iMac. -
You may as well check this site, macyourworld.com hope that will add something to your search.
