whos planning to get it when it first releases? ill have some questions for you.
-
If you pre-order it through Apple, will you receive it on the 26th? Or will it be after?
-
*prays for apple to get on the digital distribution bandwagon for applications soon* -
I plan on getting the ADC student membership for 99 and getting leopard through that. So it'll be a week or two after it comes out.

And the October 16th Press Release said, "Packed with more than 300 new features, Mac OS X Leopard goes on sale Friday, October 26, at 6:00 p.m. at Apples retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers, Apple announced today. And, beginning today, customers can place pre-orders on Apples online store. Leopard, the sixth major release of Mac OS X, is the best upgrade weve ever released, said Steve Jobs, Apples CEO. And everyone gets the Ultimate version, packed with all the new innovative features, for just $129.

Initially I was planning to wait a bit until Apple releases a bugfix or two before getting it. But that video is now making me think twice. I'm probably gonna pop down Regent Street on the 26th, and see try the OS out for myself. If I like it, it's gonna be bye-bye £58.
However, I might have to shell out an additional £xxx to buy a 500GB Firewire HD or summink just for Time Machine.
So perhaps it would be wiser to wait.
Gah, this is making my head hurt.

I'm gonna wait until they release the iphone/ipod touch sdk to see what kind of apps will be developed for it. I want to get an ipod touch but to have as a pda/media player. And without an email client and other functionality that the iphone (minus the phone) has, I dont think id buy it, especially at $399 since the 16GB version is the one I would get.

Time Machine is just awesome. I can't wait for Leopard.
-
I need to get an external drive for Time machine. I'm hoping my parents will buy a 20" iMac around Christmas
-
And new iMac? Awesome! I'd love to have a new iMac, but considering we just got a $6000 electric piano... -

Planning to switch to Mac anytime soon, booboo12?

Unfortinetly, one thing holding me back is the "bang for the buck" factor-For the price of an stripper macbook with just the default options, I could get a very well equipped Dell, Gateway, or HP with better integrated graphics (or discrete) a bigger hard drive, heck maybe even with MS Office included!
Finally, one quick question for people who did Mac OS X upgrades-Does it really take around one and a half to two hours? When I upgraded to Windows XP, it only took about 45-60 min, and I didn't do a clean install, just had to uninstall a few Win 98 specific utilities.
-
Sam would you or anyone know if I could use my 60GB iPod as a hard drive for Time Machine? I don't have the funds right now for an extra external HDD.

Interesting video content-wise, but the host was lame. I swear, apple must pay their hosts to "gesticulate" (<---smart word there
). Watch the video and look at his hands, it might just make you laugh.

. Like the guy for the iPod Touch. He had way too much expression, it was very awkward watching him talk.

Ok, please forgive my ignorance, but what exactly does the family pack (for $129.00) refer to? Is there something that I missed with the basic release of Leopard?
I am one of the on stand-by" for the October 26 release people, so that I can be assured of the new OSX-Leopard install. Apple for some reason has been leaving a huge gray area for the ones who have pre-ordered with the question of will it or will it not come with Leopard preinstalled?
Ok sorry for the rant, but I am looking verrry forward to ditching the broken windows for a clearer vision of what lies ahead in the Mac-World.

The Family Pack is supposed to be $199, the normal version is $129.
Anyways, Family Pack allows you to install OS X Leopard to three Macs for $199. Great deal. -
Sam,
Ok, when you say normal version, are you referring to ones with OSX-Tiger or is the $129.00 in addition the MSRP of say a MB or MBP?…
Thank you once again…and sorry for sounding ignorant.

Sam,
Thank you for the clarification! For some reason when I checked out the preorder screen, I could not make out what the “family pack vrs Basic” was referring to…but thank you for the quick Leopard 101 lesson!
So I am sure that I will be paying for the “family pack” for what ever pre-dates Leopard going forward and I will be sure to pass along this lesson to the next “windows-ditcher” who seems a little vague!
Thanks again!

Questions:
1) Do you think $129 is the final price and will be kept at that for the next 6-12 months?
2) Family Pack: technically speaking, it doesn't have to involve a 'family' in the literal sense, does it? I mean, would it be legal to get the family pack and share it with 4 other people on this forum? -
2) Here's Apple's requirement for Family Pack:

Whats the music playing in the beginning of this guided tour? Its also the music in the iMac commercials....

Its Exodus Honey by Honeycut. You can find it on iTunes. -

I just watched the whole video and I must say:
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH. This is R(!)%(~!)$$()~~ cool. Workflow, spaces, the new iChat (theatre)... .
But I'm assuming these functions will drain the battery like none other, correct? -

Quick question:
I'm getting Leopard on the 26th - used my iPhone rebate to pay for most of it. I have a 100gb external hard drive that I use (currently) to back up videos on my Windows partition. I might need, say, 25-30gb for that purpose. I would like to be able to use the rest of the space for Time Machine on the Mac. Is that possible? Can I partition the drive and have the second partition in a different format (I asssume it would need to be FAT or HFS+, or something else?) so I can use it for Time Machine? And also, will Time Machine be okay with having an external drive with less capacity than the main HD? -
Spaces seems cool. I didn't really care about it at first, but it seems to be pretty useful now that I think about it.
