    Mac avatar pictures question

I want to change my avatars for my accounts to something other than the default pictures the Mac has. I don't know what directory these pictures live in though, to copy more pictures over, and I can't seem to find a way to point at other pictures.

A couple things I find interesting and annoying though: It uses the same picture for the account I'm logged in on, my MSN chat through Adium, and sticks it on my emails in Mail as well. The other thing is if I use Photo Booth to snap a pic with my MBP webcam, all of a sudden it sticks that picture in all those places. Automatically.

    So:

    1. How can I choose different pics for all those? I know how to change my account avatar, but not how to point to different ones than the Mac offers by default.
    2. What directory are these pics stored in, so I can put all these cute web avatars there?

    Thanks!

Well I could not find a way to add your avatars to that group or where they are, but I did find a way to make the picture be what ever you want it to be. Straight from the Apple Help:

Open System Preferences and click Accounts.
Select your account and click Picture.
    Click Edit.
Click Choose, then locate the picture you want.
Drag the slider to make the image smaller or larger.
Drag the image until the part you want is inside the crop box.
    Click Set when you're finished.

It's a little Draconian, but it does get the job done! HTH!

You might think its a bit Draconian but I love how simple it is, and yes it does get the job done.

That's IT! I was missing the "choose" button.

To me, it's not intuitive to have to edit the one that's there or the ones that are in the prefab list BEFORE actually getting to CHOOSE the one I want. The ability to choose the picture I want BEFORE I edit it is the process that makes sense to me. Silly me... trying to make sense of things.

I will say that's probably the FIRST unintuitive thing I've run into on this machine.

Ya they should have a "more" option or something right there in the first screen, not through editing. Oh well, at least we know how now!
