    Here's the plan:

    1. Put a 4GB RAM, replace 1x 2GB slot
*According to OCW other world computing this MacBook Pro early 2008 2.5 GHz phenyrynyn can support 6GB of RAM, even though Apple says 4GB.
    Correct?

    2. Buy SSD, take HDD, SSD and connect via SATA (sata 1, who cares)

    3. Remove optical drive

    4. Put HDD where CD drive was

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    I'm buying:

    $75 4GB DDR2 667MHz from DMS "no brand, distributor/manufacturer whatever"
-It's cheaper? Lifetime warranty? Why spend more? They seem legit..

$115 Same **** 115GB Data Memory Systems SATA II..
    -Same reasons

$3.50 IDE/ATA (aka PATA?) to SATA adapter
and see a better view of it here

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Mostly concerned about the adapter?

    Haven't looked inside..........yet

FINALLY if you may confirm I'm not an stupid and check attached screenshots including System Inform:apple:tion for:
    • HDD specs --------------- hitachi_HDD.png
    • CD/optical drive specs -- ata_optical.png
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Any advice is welcome.

    -Thanks,
    Anton

P.S. I'll definitely be doing this...

I would get a cheaper SSD, there are 120gb drives with more reasonable prices.

the crucial m4 is usually around 90 or less.

regarding the RAM, it should work.

    regarding the adapter... dunno

I'm not sure on the ram. I think 4 is the Max. When I upgraded my mini from 009 it will only do 4 even though I installed 8. I'm thinking your mbp is the same. I suggest the Intel 320 ssd, I am using one and its very fast, reliable and not that expensive.

I've heard that you can go up to 6 GB but I don't need that much memory and have been fine with 4 GB.

I installed a Wintec FileMate 3FMS4D048JM-R ExpressCard 34 48GB ExpressCard 34 & Mini USB 2.0 MLC Internal / External Solid State Drive (SSD) a few years ago in the ExpressCard slot and replaced the HDD with a 1 TB WD drive and the system is nice. I store the OS and Applications on the SSD and everything else on the HDD. Boots in 20 seconds and performance is generally great. Wintec has a 128 GB ExpressCard SSD too but it's about $260.

The ExpressCard SSD certainly costs more per GB than a conventional SSD but it is pretty convenient. I can also take the ExpressCard SSD and put it in other similar MBPs and boot.

Any SSD upgrade is definitely work it.
