How hot does the bottom actually get? Does apple plan to make this issue go away, or will it always be like this. I want to get a MBP, but I don't want it to be this hot because I will occasionaly use it on my lap. Does anyone know if Apple is working in this issue, or if they can't do anything about it?

Oh and I forgot, some people said that the 1.83 GHz one doesn't have the heat problem, is this true?

I have used our 1.83 on my lap for up to 2 hours without noticing it getting hotter than the average Tablet PC convertible notebooks I have worked with. It might get a bit warmer if you plan to play graphic intensive video games, but while working on the web and running a Word Processor, there hasn't been a heat issue.

I have the 2.0 and it WILL get to hot for your lap. This reason alone is so far making think I made another dumb pick on laptops. See cons below, I didnt list positives as both are good laptops.

    I went from a Sony sz110 to a sz120
cons: not so bright screen, shorter than advertised battery life (5-6hrs advertized to 2:40min at most for me)

    To apple:
cons: Unit gets really hot, battery life is shorter than sz120 (4+hrs advertised vs 2hrs at most for me)

And yes, I knew the apple would be shorter battery. It is a 15in screen.

well I dont use my laptop on low. I use it. The two hours is with my use on the laptop. If I gaming, its about an hour max. If I do windows, its under 2 hrs.

There seems to be an easy fix for the temperature problem, check out this link.

Before temperatures: 54° Celcius, bottom 50.8° Celsius

After temperatures: 39.9° Celcius, bottom 36.6° Celcius

The solution seems to be reapplying the thermal paste on the cooler.

Hmm... maybe it's about time somebody should really get burned by MAcbook and sue Apple and get hell lot of money from them, just to teach them something.

BTW Why people sue McDonalds for selling them too-hot applepies and can't do the same trick with hardware company and computers? Maybe because those, who actually buy Macbooks are, hm Apple zealots?

It's so annoying, that this heating issue is actually the only thing, that stands between me and MBP...

I have a Macbook Pro 2ghz, post revision D (Revision C ended in Serial number "10", Revision D ended in serial number "11", mine ends in 15...) and I can say that the laptop is very comfortable on my lap in battery mode. When the notebook is plugged in it does get hot when you are running CPU and GPU intensive programs, though I would not say it gets noticeably hotter than a current powerbook G4 doing the same tasks.

With regards to the battery life issue, I'm getting between 3-3.5 hours with wireless on, general use (download updates, surfing, office, itunes) in OSX. In windows I'm only getting around 2 hours battery life.

    Hope that helps,
    Steve

Not all people are having the heat issue but those that are, the unit does get very hot. Mine gets very hot. Too hot to hold on lap while in a meeting. And yes, I read pg107, but the instruction was in the box, so I would've NOT known that this is a desktop replacement.

Why do some not have this issue? Luckly to get Revision D? Also, can you request a Revision D if you phone order?

I say some because some people may not consider hot as your hot. Example: when I first got the mbp I considered it super hot just under the screen. But if I really try, I can keep my finger on the metal. So its not schorching hot, but I consider it too hot and will seeing about returning it becuase of it. I need to use it on my lap during some meetings when there is no table room. But I dont know if apple will charge me a restocking fee. I think hawaii has a law that says they cannot, but not sure. I know compusa/best buy/circuit city all dont charge.
