Hi,
I have a black MacBook and I really really like it! Only 1 small problem.
When the laptop is closed, you have the hinge. The long thing in the middle, between those little speakers.
I can push in a little, the case sort of flexes. Is this normal? I am getting a little tired of carrying it and then hearing the plastic creak.
Thank you.
Nick.

Try some WD-40
That always gets rid of squeaks.
Notebooks always respond well to acidic liquids.
please please please do not follow that advice!!Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
I can't put WD-40 on the plastics!

Right you are! That sagebrush is scoundrel.
Be weary of him.
In the meantime,
Welcome to the forum, Nick.
I, unfortunately, cannot offer a remedy for your squeaking problem.
There are plenty of Macbook owners who participate in these forums,
so i am sure some actual advice will come your way in a jiffy. -
Thank you, it has become really really annoying.
-
how loud is the squeak? maybe the plastic is to tight?
I have macbook and mine creaks but doesn't squeak. -
It is not the hinge, just the plastic. Kind of flex.
So yours has the same problem? When the laptop lid is closed you can have some flex in the plastic hinge? It is a little bit, and only in the right hand corner.

It doesn't bother me. I'd gladly have a screen that doesn't wobble around much then one with to lose of tolerances that moved quite a bit.

I would take it into an apple store if possible. When plastic creaks like that it usually means there's a weak point in it and the creak means that the weak point is spreading.

I really can't see Apple doing anything about it. If it was cracked, or split. Yes they would fix it.
A little flex? I think they would say that is wear and tear.
When and if it cracks, I will go to the store. -
It's your machine so do as you please, but I think system_159 gave you good advice - which you asked for in this thread. I've never simply been turned away by the folks in the local Apple Store no matter how simple or inconsequential my questions may have seemed.
Judging by the number of responses you've gotten by folks with the same issue, I'd guess that Apple has heard this complaint many times and may well have a simple fix for it. -
Okay next time I am in London I will book a appointment in the Genius Bar.
Probably sometime next month.
