stealthsniper96 What Was I Thinkin'?
Yes you can. Any 2.5" HD will work. I recommend Western Digital drives.
-
Does Seagate make 2.5'' HD's? Seagate has those 5-year warranty things which makes it very tempting to choose them for me.
-
Yea seagate makes 2.5" drives.

Does changing the drive yourself void your warrant? I am wondering as I plan to buy a Macbook soon and upgrading the HDD myself would be a lot cheaper I imagine.

This one will though and its what i'm gonna put in my MBP as soon as I can get local stock. Its a standard 9.5mm height.

@basskiddanny. Sorry, replacing the internal HDD yourself will void he warranty. That doesn't mean you can't pop the old drive back in before sending it back to Apple though. Just don't leave any marks on the laptops screw-heads etc. And always keep your OS ghosted so they won't ever get suspicious. -
Correct me if I'm wrong, but on the white macbooks you can change the hard drive without voiding the warranty. It's only on the pro's that you can't.

Actually after Syrc said I just went searching and found this thread.

Syrc is totally right, the MB HDD can be user-replaced without voiding the warranty. I just assumed it was like every other Mac out there, my bad. I never knew that, its kinda cool. Cheers for the info Syrc. -
can u guys post links to good and large hard drives that fit on macbook?
-
Thanks for the tips guys. I think I did read once that replacing ANYTHING in the macbook pro will void the warranty, even just ram. But it's obviously different with the regular baby macbook
-
Changing the RAM on a MacBook Pro is the only thing that does not void the warranty. It's actually the only piece of hardware on the MBP that is user-accessible without jumping through hoops to get to.

Obviously, if you get a faster drive, youll get a faster computer. Although 7200rpm drives, are still fairly more expensive then the 5400rpm counterparts. So its up to you, whether or not you're willing to spend the money, and if you really need it or not. -

it fits on MB? (still need to know stores that ship in any country) -
There will be new mbp before mb. But its likely that both will get re-done this year. The rumor mill is picking up on the mbp, so my guess is that will drop sometime in late august for the back to school crowd. The mb usually comes a few months later so october/november is a good bet.
