What's the benefit on the MB over the small PB if both were configured with the same memory and HD size.
I have NO intention of ever putting Win XP on whatever I get. I have plenty of other Wintel computers. I really just want to do iTunes and photo management with OS X. It's more of a diversion. I have to use Windows all day at work.
I really like the small size factor of the 12" PB. Pricewise they're only about $70 bones different (I have an ECC account).
Anybody here use the small PB? What ISN'T good about them?
Thanks...

The Macbook would be faster cpuwise by far (on most applications, meaning those that don't have to be emulated through Rosetta), and the resolution is better on them (1280x800 vs. 1024x768). The PBG4 has a dedicated graphics card though, but I don't imagine that would really make much difference for your needs. Matte screen on the PB, glossy on the Macbook. Which you want of those is a personal preference, but I imagine photos might look nice on a glossy screen.
That said, personally I like the Powerbooks. I'd go for the PB 12" myself. Much sexier, slightly smaller and should be more than enough power for what you describe. -
dude get the MacBook

Yeah, technically speaking, I think it makes more sense to go with a MacBook since you are going to be getting something that will run considerably faster, etc. Frankly, especially if you are going to be doing a lot of photo management, I'd say that you really might benefit from the MB, since even the PowerBook G4 can kind of get hung up by really large photo libraries, etc. (at least comparitively).
Having said that, based on what you said, you probably would be fine with the PowerBook G4 12". The main downside would be investing in a PPC system at this point, but Apple and developers should continue to make Universal binary software (with code for both PPC and Intel chips) for a number of years, so I doubt that would be a problem for you. In fact, in the short term, it might even be a benefit, especially if you're using some pro-level apps which haven't been made Universal yet.
From a style perspective I think the 12" PB was pretty classy, although I think it still sort of suffers (compared to the larger PB's and the MBP's) from seeming more like a 12" iBook painted silver or something - that's not really true, but it still sort of feels like it sometime.
I think between the two I'd personally get a MB just to have the more current technology, but you should be fine if you do decide to go with the 12" PB G4. -
Thanks for all the replies.
I can see all those points also. The inreased (nominal) resolution on the MacBook is probably due to the "widescreen" aspect.
I think if Adobe would come out with the Photoshop catalog in Apple w/Intel coding this would all be moot.
I'm still on the fence, but I'll let you know.
Thanks again...
