I am seriously considering a MacOS notebook. I hate the direction where the MS Windows platform is going.

What is the configuration that you recommend regarding hard drive space and memory, screen resolution and sound cards/video cards to do photo editing and uncomplicated video editing from my digital camera? I am just a hobbyist so I don't need state of the art, either.

Outside of that I run iTunes and Microsoft office.

I was seriously considering the Macbook Air.

The MacBook Air is not well suited to your needs unless you want to carry around external storage and won't mind slow video editing. The MBA is the slowest Mac and comes with an 80GB drive. It really is geared towards being a second machine, not a primary.

I would look at the MacBook. It is plenty powerful to do what you want and has a user replaceable hard drive. Remember, photos and videos require a large storage investment. The only reason I would tell you to look at the MBP is the larger screen. Otherwise, the MacBook should suffice nicely.

I recommend you get a macbook pro. Personally, I am starting to not like how small the screen is on my macbook, and I really wish it had a more capable video card (although for photo editing the x3100 will be fine). If you do get a macbook, you might want an external monitor.

It would depend on what you're willing to spend, really.

If you were considering the MacBook Air, at that price point I would go for a MacBook Pro. Photo and video editing will benefit from the larger screen and resolution on the MBP, as well as the faster processor on the MBP against the MacBook Air.

But if you're just being a hobbyist, I would just go for a MacBook, and plug in an external display as it is necessary. The MacBook has a lot of processing power for photo and video editing, its main limitation is screen size and resolution so an external monitor will fix that problem at a lower price than getting a MacBook Pro too!

If you have the funds, I would also recommend the macbook pro. As everyone has already said, the screen space is a big plus...also I have the matte screen, which is great for editing pictures, and I have no more glare problems i used to have with my glossy hp computer. If your not sure what which one to get...i would head to an apple store or best buy and play around with the computers to see which one you think would suit your needs...

The smallest MacBook Pro is the 15.4-inch version. Yes, you can get the MacBook, it'll do those tasks fine, I'd say the biggest limitation is the screen size and resolution, which can be solved by connecting to an external monitor.

I have the 17" high res matte and I love it. Because the MBP screens are so bright and crisp, it feels like I am using my old High gloss 1920x1200 XPS screen. The MBP screens are amazing..
