With all the talk about the imminent tablet announcement, and subsequent wild speculations... I'm really surprised that the name MacPad has never been floated.
I know its an outsider but to me its a much nicer name then iTablet or iSlate or iAnything.
I guess we will all know in a few hours.

It's very close to Maxi-pad ;-)
-
That's the first thing I thought of too.
-
Damm didn't think of that... I can see the ads now..
"Only the MacPad can soak up such a huge overflow of hype".
"MacPad... keeps you protected on your worst PC days"

I really hope they don't use anything thing to do with Pad in the name.
-
I know.. after the whole iPad sketch on MadTV, I'll never be able to say that with a straight face.

iPad.... nice!

Cute name. Seems like they should have called it the Newton II after watching the event. It might be one of those things you think is great once you try one in person but I think its going to be a hard sell given its price and feature set.
-
Maybe they can have a 'quilted' skin for it, for maximum absorption and freshness.
-
While its not for me, I think its really targeted at the "netbook" crowd. Thats a growing and maybe huge new market. And I think apple might just take a decent slab of it.
To me this is a bit like the Wii. It will get mum's and dad's those on a budget online... much like the Wii got the casual gamer playing again.

MacPad would be good if the actually ever make one...
iPad fits better since its an iPhone OS based device... not really a true Mac.
I woulda bought one in a heart beat if it had a full Mac OS X 10.6 on it. -

While netbooks were meant for surfing and email and chatting and the like they offer most of the functionality of a full fledged notebook and while not good for all days use there is almost no function they can't perform.
The iPad has limited surfing capability (no FLASH or other pligins, no Java etc) No Camera so no video calls or chatting. Oh boy it does email. And
since its incapable of running all my full OS X apps it can't replace my Notebook or Netbook at all (not to mention no ports, no keyboard, no standard components).
It might be an awesome eBook reader or game machine. But its pretty pricy for those functions. I guess I just don't get it. Maybe if I hold one and play with it I'll fall in gadget love. -
lets say it did run OS X, wouldn't it compete with the Air & MB line? I think Apple was trying to avoid this but I could be wrong.

I'm *really* surprised it doesn't have a camera on the front.
-
I'm not but would of loved one for Video Conf. Would AT&T's network been able to handle Video Conf if there was a front iSight Camera? Let's say there was one but for wifi only. There would still be people who bash it because "wifi only" or some other reason. Though I fall in the "better than no iSight Camera at all" crowd if it was wifi only. I could see future revision's having an iSight camera though I wasn't expecting much for Rev A version. Still a must buy for me.

Sorry I meant the large proportion of society for whom a netbook is sufficient as there main computer. You probably know some, grandma, sister, dad, those that aren't techy... don't know a left click from a right.
Thats who the ipad is for in my book.

In order for this name to make sense it would have to at least somewhat resemble a MAC and the ipad is just a big ipod touch...so no.
-
Well I started the thread before the announcement... I was hoping it would be more mac, and less ipod... but alas no, and so I won't be getting one.
