Those are amazing pictures. Thanks for the peek!
After much much debating, I finally decided to get the 17" MBP. A friend of mine has XP Media Center and is going to let me put it on the macbook whenever I get it. Yay for recording tv!
How do you like it so far? Any of the usual problems happening? I'm kinda worried about it because of all the problems being reported, but I still going to get it lol -
So I see now people are buying macs to run Windows. Can this be a sign of the downfall of OSX? Stay tuned.
-
Noooooooooooooo
Actually I'm just putting media center on it for the tv recording abilities only. Oh and to play the computer games I already have. I don't want to have to go rebuy everything. That's way too expensive. -
Congrats on your new toy -
I doubt that. I, for one, bought the MBP to run OSX. I've been a PC guy since high school. (Being almost 27, that's almost 13 years of PC) Running day to day operations, I'm fine and I've adapted. Its the small things that require me to do a search or run a Help dialog or something. Otherwise, its been flawless.
-
BTW, congrats on the purchase. Enjoy the machine.

Hello everybody.
Aztlan, what's the revision of your MBP? How're the heat and whine issue? Does MBP get hot underneath?
I'm considering to get this laptop, so kinda worried -
As John MacEnroe used to say: "You cannot be serious!" Once you've completed the switch you're hooked.

Thanks for the pics! Have fun with your new notebook!

How to disassemble MacBook http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/85.1.1.html
Apple seem to apply the thermal paste wrongy (pics)

This seem to cause the overheating problems on MacBook.
This is how Apple techs are instructed to apply the thermal paste:

does anyone know how to turn off that sound that plays everytime you turn on the computer?
it is freaking loud when turning the laptop on in the university library
which as you can imagine, it makes heads turn lol
also I have been having a problem with using the headphones. even when plugging in the headphones. the laptop speakers dont get muted.. and i dont get sound on the headphones.. and the speakers still produce the sound..
which is becaming a bit of a problem
could be an issue with windows xp installed?
I have been using XP the most because i have most of my programs there.. which I need..
but I still plan on using OS X
now I have to find a way to select the OS X partition in order to boot into that
I dont know which revision it is.. but the laptop is quiet..
and it does get Warm.. but not hot enough to burn your finger like I have read around.. people seem to exagerate stuff
when i have time.. I plan to test Quake 4, Most Wanted and Oblivion..
and yes it does get warm below the notebook. that has to happen because there is not even a small amount space between the laptop and the desk.. so there is no air cooling the underside of the laptop..
you have to get something to raise the notebook like this thing
http://www.laptopdesk.net/access-legsf.html
which i plan to get.. -
this website has the solution for you:
http://homepage.mac.com/geerlingguy/mac_support/mac_help/pages/0025-startup_sound.html
yep. this is a known problem, hopefully Apple will fix this (and other issues) with the final release of bootcamp (which is still a beta, as you know)
Bootcamp put an icon in your control panel, that lets you choose the default operating system. However, you can always select the OS you want to use at the startup; just press and hold the "alt/option" button after you turn on your computer, and you'll be able to select the partition you want to boot from.
EDIT: Anyway, I suggest you to visit www.onmac.net, it has a LOT of useful info for running XP on macs.
