Hi, hopefully someone can answer this question for me.
I currently use bittorrent, but i'm used to using a P2P program. By using limewire on my macbook, am i putting myself at risk for viruses and such which happened to me when using a windows based machine?
Thanks!

No. There are no viruses for OS X.

While the Mac is more resistant to such things, it is not imune and the nature of the software you are talking about is allowing people you don't know limited (you hope) access to your system.
While I would not put something like that on my machine, the practical risk is no more than that inherent in downloading materials from other unknown sources and executing it. Again, with the security alerts for Quicktime reciently, downloading movies from unknown sources and executing them is risky.
Just my $0.02 worth. Then again I'm the type that always buy's manufacturers media then RIPs it myself if I want a portable version. -
Limewire has the least amount of spam, adware and spyware. If you want those three download bearshare
but you shouldnt have to worry since your on a mac.

Is it alright to talk about illegal practices on this forum?

It is not alright to talk about anythng illegal on these forums; however, Limewire is not illegal if you don't download copyright material.
