I just tried bootcamp and installed the latest nvidia mobile drivers for my Macbook alu. When I tried playing UT3 (which runs pretty ok to my surprise) within minutes the Macbook got very hot (especially around the area where power is plugged in). Is this normal? Fan started blowing pretty hard within minutes too.

Yeah, it's normal in the sense that it happens to everyone. Mac laptops get pretty hot.

Completely normal. I played GTA4 on my MBP for 12 hour sessions all the time. Yes, the fans do get loud and the laptop gets hot, but I used an external keyboard and mouse with over the ear headphones.

I might be mistaken but I remember reading somewhere that MacBooks are actually designed to use the aluminium case as an extra means to control heat.

    Can anyone confirm it?

yes, it's true. That's why it is called a "Notebook" and not a "Laptop"

I guess that is normal. The thing is, CPU and GPU produce heat, and they need to get out before they burn the interior. Aluminum is the best way to conduct heat out
