    OK... Here's my question

If you had the opportunity to buy a macbook with the first intel processor 2.0ghz (core duo) w/ 2gb of ram for $1150 w/ a 120gb hard drive, would you do it? Or would it be worth it to just buy a new one for like $200 more for the Core 2 duo processor in it with 1gb less ram?

(Reason for buying a mac is because I want to run Logic Pro music production software) - which would be better for me

    Any opinions are appreciated. Thanks!!

RAM is definitely more important. I'd get the 2GB RAM model. Core 2 Duo doesn't really make that much of a difference anyway.

I would definately go with the core 2 duo. With macbooks, a lot of heat issues were resolved with the newer models. You can always upgrade the ram later on.

Ram is very important I agree, but like I said: You can always upgrade later. Check out reviews of both core duos and core 2 duos and then compare.

yea i would figure the core 2 duo's are obviously better since they are newer and basically the standard of all the new macbooks... i was just wondering if it'd be a good deal to get that one i was talking about for $1150...

now i'm thinking about being patient and looking around for a core 2 duo w/ 2gb of ram for the same price, but i doubt i'll be able to... right?

Definitely Core2 if you are going to be using Logic. You will want all the processing power you can get. RAM is cheap.

The Core 2 Duo is also 64-bit capable which will become important with Leopard.

The Core 2 Duo models also come with 802.11n wireless capabilities, but I don't believe the Core Duo ones did.

Ram is dirt cheap right now... Go with the Core2.

if you're trying to save money you could get a refurbished base model of the core 2 duo from apple for $949 and upgrade everything yourself.

    $949 (macbook) + ~$75 (state tax) + ~$70AR (2gb ram) = ~$1100

so for about $1100 you could have a new macbook with 2gb ram and a core 2 duo processor. for another $75 you could upgrade the hard drive from 60gb to 120gb or to save money just get an external. Best of both worlds.
