Well my macbooks case finally chipped. This like happened out of nowhere actually. It happened down below the palm wrests right on the corner. I called apple and now i have made an appointment with apple to diagnose the problem. My question is what are they gonna do? The guy said the can fix it in some stores. now my question is if they can what are they gonna do. Are they gonna give me a new case or something? If they send it away are they gonna give me a replacment until it gets back?

They may be able to repair it in store, they'll usually just replace the entire palmrest. I don't expect it to take too long (maybe a day or two), and no, they won't be giving out loaners
.
Hope you get it fixed! -
Yeah thats what the guy said. They may be able to. Its a shame they dont give out loaners cause this thing is my life. Like i use this everyday for school and having it sent away could affect my grades.
-
Then get it fixed when you can afford to, like over a break or something.
And do you know of any company that gives out loaners to people that are having their systems repaired? I have yet to hear of one. -
Piece of duct tape will clear that issue up
-
Just curious to know... are you under warranty? I know this is an issue that shold basically have been a recall.
-
Yeah. I bought it in Feb. and i got apple care so i am good for 3 years.
-
Well nothing but good news. They replaced the palm rests and the keyboard and it took them about 2 hours. Just got home from picking it up. The apple store wasnt that busy today so i got lucky. The keyboard fells so much better than my last one. i can actually feel a spring in there and i dont have to pound the keys to get the feed back. another good thing is that there was something wrong with the comma key. It was slightly raised and could come off the keyboard so that is fixed. Overall i am extremely happy. Lets put a smile on that face.

I have to do the same. Mine just chipped yesterday. Too bad I don't live closer to the Apple Store in Vancouver. My local Mac Station should be able to take care of it, though.

My Macbook (white) also chipped sometime ago, and after the warranty was over. I found that this was a very common problem. I bought a new original top cover (which includes keyboard and pad) from Ebay for less than $40 and replaced myself. Apple was selling the part for a much higher price. It is just like new now
You can find the assembly guide here

Just a query post. How did/does the casing get to be chipped? Defect?
cheers ... -
It is due to alignment of the top casing and the tension created during assembly. IMHO it is a manufacturing defect. I paid more attention not to overtighten the screws while replacing the chipped top case.
-
gotcha, will review the tension of the screws on mine again.
cheers ... -
It's kind of sad - this chipping problem is quite severe. I had my first MacBook in for repair three times in the first six months, two of those because of chipping. Christmas 2007 I demanded and got a new one, which chipped 3-4 months later. Furthermore the backlighting for the screen was messed up (probably a loose connection).. It was in for 4 weeks..
I'm so sad that it chips and all that, 'cause I really like the MacBook.. I'm just sick and tired of it breaking.. -
Happened to me, they changed the casing, free of charge http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=3352126
